Campaign: A Project Starfarer Sidestory

Description
This novel’s lore, story and characters are entirely fictitious. Certain long-standing countries, institutions, organizations, agencies, and public offices are mentioned, but their histories and the characters involved are wholly imaginary.
"What will you do with your freedom?"Growing up in a meritocracy, infamous for being lawless, Jordan Astros had heard that question since he first emerged from the gestation chambers.
In a society that quantified one's accomplishments and skills in order to determine one's rank and standard of living, however, Jordan quickly grew to understand that 'freedom' was a reward earned by accumulating Merit.
And so, after his 17th birthday, Jordan departed his Clan's habitat orbiting Europa to embark on his century-long journey to rise from E-Ranker to S-Rank and spread his name throughout the Galilean Powers. Yet, on his first step, Jordan encounters a challenge that will change the course of his life forever.

Campaignis a side story within its Nanopunk parent series, my hard sci-fi OC,Project Starfarer.(Yet to be published. Be on the lookout for it!) In which, the first transhuman known to humanity, the Starfarer, invokes a plan to seed the galaxy with terrestrial-based life.Campaigntakes place around the middle of that timeline, beginning in the 2130's, and explores the life of a key figure in that universe, Jordan Astros, while exploring one of four great nations thriving in the Solar System during that era. A Meritocracy that spans Jupiter and its 95 moons, The Galilean Powers.
What you'll find inCampaign:Brutal combat, often in airless or pressurized low gravity environments; a technology-based progression system influenced by merit and accomplishments; using tech that's theoretically possible to exist in the near or far-future; an exploratory perspective of the dozens of Galilean societies, or 'Powers,' from Jordans; and sometimes others', POV.
What you won't find: Romance. Harems. An MC who receives shortcuts, handouts, learns things unnaturally fast or has OP plot armor. Jordan is not a special individual. Jordan is not OP and he likely never will be. Despite his abilities, they're no different from what anyone in the Solar System could have, and he and will certainly face as many defeats as he does wins. He'll suffer losses and grow as an individual, all while the Powers evolve around him as well.
This is semi-hard sci-fi/NanoPunk story and takes place in a fictional version of our future solar system centered on technology that's plausible in the near-centuries to come. Everything abides by the laws of physics/thermodynamics (As best as I understand them, at least. I'm no scientist or engineer.) No artificial gravity, inertial dampeners, teleportation, FTL, or hand-wavy materials will be found in theProject Starfareruniverse. Just advanced automation, nanotechnology, cybernetics, and AI set in the backdrop of our vast Solar System.

- MShadowlawnRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5BLUF: A story where people fight with melee weapons in low gravity for Merit. Prose is quite the mess, and the first several chapters are a tough read, but for those that brave the fires there's a surprisingly deeply built world presented here, with plenty of crunchy details and a shockingly hard kind of sci-fi. However, I have an exceedingly difficult time recommending this to anyone that isn't a major fan of either melee combat in low-gravity or hard sci-fi. The world has a slightly video game-y quality to it that some Gamelit fans will probably dig.
This has been an exceedingly difficult review for me to make, I must admit.
Character: Overall, characters have established personalities and are actually more or less believable in their motives. Jordan also has a relatively consistent, if sometimes fairly foolish philosophy, but since people like that exist in real life, it didn't bother me all that much. That being said, don't expect wicked amounts of depth from this roster, because that's not what you get here. Character details are often slipped in via narration during an introduction, and that does help a bit when painting a better picture of the characters in particular.
Story: It genuinely surprised me at times at just how hard the sci-fi went, and this is coming from a fan of The Forever War. There's clearly a lot of attention to detail with regards to all the established technologies and the society the author has envisioned in this world, and the depth does show quite well over the course of the work, with said technologies being demonstrated more often than merely informed about in a way that wasn't too obtrusive.
However, I cannot forgive how bad the first several chapters are, both from a pacing and a content perspective. Firstly, the entire thing mostly feels like a bit of a foot-slog until at least chapter 5, with several points that make absolutely no sense within the first several chapters, and after that, pacing still doesn't feel that great, thoug
