Description

Defeat a Dark Lord, turn back a horde of monsters, slay a dragon and save a princess? Sure, why not. That is for the right price… and if the guild gets the contract.

In a world where all are born with a path to walk, after giving up so much to get it in the first place, Lan finds his path taken from him, along with the love of his life and what little of his soul was left. With nowhere to turn and with nothing to show for his sacrifice, Lan throws himself into the vital yet often frowned upon world of adventuring. But few have the heart to be an adventurer, and even fewer survive their first contract, and that is to say nothing of the fact that he has never gained a single level, with a guild tag still stained with the blood of the last idiot to use it, Lan finds himself facing one chance to find his place amongst the most honourable of rogues. He will have to battle demons from his past, slay the monsters before him and live many stories as he deals with a barely sentient ball of flying light that won't leave him alone. All while the world changes, refusing to wait for him.

A lot of people like to read weak to strong novels, but most of the time the weak guy is average at most. Not in this case, Lan (the protagonist) starts as weak as you can be.
The first 9 chapters are hard to read (ando not only for the prose, which is headscratching sometimes) because the protagonist is subject of an abusive relationship by a walking turd of a merchant.
Some people would critize or hate the submissive protagonist, but they must remember he was eleven ando unrooted from his family, and under the duress and gaslight of a scammer that should have been his mentor instead. Also, in later chapters he grows a spine with matching steel balls. I would feel bad for the merchant but the payback is going to be delicious.
Lastly, the writing gets better each chapter,  the plot is really good and the descriptions and characters are solid.
Gonna keep reading, see you at Rising Stars!

I suffer from seasonal depression. On December 13th I had run out of my anxiety pills and ended up in the ER with benzo withdrawal. My daughter found Royal Road and I've been reading stories nonstop to quell my anxiety and distract myself.
I really love this story. Its engaging, funny, uncanny, but also thought provoking... I can't wait to see where the story is going. and Lan's character development.
More than that, I love the way the author engages with the readers.   I have found a new, untapped resource of brilliant stories.  HOORAY for ME!!!

I am surprised this story has so little reviews. It is coming along really nicey ive binge read up to the latest chapter and dont regret it. The pacing is pretty on point and I enjoy the characters so far. The main character has a rough start but is slowly getting better. Not a huge power creep or anything either which is nice. I usually dont write reviews but I hope the author keeps making more chapters so I thought id help

This story is really interesting. I like the main character and the supporting cast so far, and can’t wait to explore more of the world and class system. However, the punctuation is… not so great. There are so many. Sentences like these. The author doesn’t seem to know how to use periods or quotation marks. Hopefully this gets better, and the author gets someone to proofread and edit. That’s really my only complaint.

Fun story, Great imagery and comparisons, but (especially the first few chapters) some editing is needed.  The MC isn't OP out of the gate, which I enjoy.  At this point, I don't have a great grasp of the leveling system but the story seems set up for the slow reveal that.  For some reason I get strong vibes of the anime Fairy Tail.
I'm looking forward to reading more as the writer improves their craft!

Unfortunately if every challenge u face if more than u can handle it becomes irrational to read and make the story flavourless. So in my opinion this story either need to improve in power scaling the villains or its a lost cause. Hope the auther can think about it. Overall it was fine but recently it has become meaningless
