Call of the Dragons

Description
Long ago, in a world with magic and mythical creatures, there were dragons...hundreds of dragons. Most of them located on a large island located far, far away from any sort of civilization called - The Isle of the Dragons.
The Isle was ruled by a king and queen, who both had very powerful magical staffs that only they could use. The two staffs were passed down from king and queen to king queen, along with the title. The dragons on the Isle were peaceful creatures until the dragon hunters emerged. These were people who hunted the dragons, some for profit while others hunted them for glory and the thrill of it. After that, dragons went from peaceful to aggressive creatures as they continued to be hunted, captured and killed. That was...until one soon-to-be dragon king decided to do something about it and his name forevermore, was...Dagron. He despised dragon hunters to his very core. He and his soon-to-be queen, Abyss, turned the tables on them. They tracked down every last dragon hunter, right to their camps, outposts and bases, and killed them all. Hundreds of men and women died because of their pride and greed.
One day, after hearing of the death and destruction they had caused, an old and powerful wizard lured Dagron and Abyss away from their home and imprisoned them both. They were imprisoned in two separate boxes with a lock and key and buried in separate tombs, their staffs buried with them. In order to make sure they couldn't be freed, the entire Isle of the Dragons and all the dragons on it were imprisoned in a big mystical barrier that froze them in time for eternity.
After that, dragons faded out and became creatures of legend. The rest of world continued and the history of the dragons was buried...until now.

- TienSwitchRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I'm trying to think of how to even start this review. What sort of lead up can I give it? And the only thing I can think of is to say what I'd been thinking the whole time:
This is a shonen fighting anime set in a fantasy world.
That might sound bog-standard, and perhaps it is. But--and maybe I haven't watched an anime in awhile--I loved every moment of it.
Let's dive in, shall we?
STYLE AND GRAMMAR
We'll start off with the story's weakest links, which are the style and grammar.
I want to point out that neither are really bad. Everything reads well and you're kept in the story for the most part.
But from the very start, there's a bit of weirdness.
Run-on sentences, tense changes, and meandering trains of thought pepper the author's narration, making it seem like he's telling us the story in modern real life slang, sitting lazily in a chair with one leg over the armrest and a bored expression on his face.
It doesn't work. It's a traditional third person semi-omniscient narrator. A little flowery prose here and there is okay, but the narration should be a lot more concise and to the point. Wacky tangents and out-there metaphors have no place there.
You don't even need to go into the story proper to see this. Look at the run-on sentence in the synopsis blurb. The first thing I thought after reading that was "Oh no".
The grammar also contains tense changes, with individual sentences often jumping back and forth between present and past tense. That's fine when a character is speaking, but not the narration. That should never happen during narration.
I would have dinged the story harder for those two things had it not been for some mitigating factors. First, while it often jolted me out of the story, it never did so so badly that it made me not want to continue. Second, the author vastly improves as the story continues, though the issue with the style never quite goes away. And third, not gonna lie, but it's kinda funny at some points.
STORY
The story is enjoyable so far.
