Story: 4 stars in general – 4.5 for interlude
I liked the easy going nature of the first few chapters, it felt like a slice of life story. I know flashbacks (and forwards etc) are often really hard to pull off (I have trouble with this) But the interlude was so much darker and obviously intense than the previous two chapters that I felt it jarring – going from the chapter before to the interlude then back to another far lighter chapter afterwards.
Obviously the desired affect was to give backstory - urgency, depth and tension to drive the plot forward but I think this would have been better nearer the start of the story as
It was a very impressive chapter, that would have really drawn in the reader
The tone was very dark giving the reader a better idea of the storyline as a whole
    Characters and setting: 3.5 stars
The charactisation were likeable though I felt them a bit generic, which could have been the style the author was going for with this type of genre but I felt if the Leyna for instance had a bit more of a dark backstory or things that were more tragic or hidden in her past, even a wound of scars then it would fit better with the
    Style: 3.5
The first chapters were buried in dialogue, which could have been ok but the first chapter was long. The dialogue was used to give backstory when I think a little bit more detailed description of setting and action would have been better.
    Overall: 4 stars
The author clearly has put a lot of thought into the world, plot  and characters and this resonates in the chapters. But I think darker elements or better still portents of darker things, need to be shown earlier on for the reader to find the interlude making more sense as a whole, within the story.
