- Mech_WizardRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Never have I read a story in which the old saying “humans are the real monsters” rings so true.
In this intriguing story, we follow a group of half mad primates as they make a daring escape from their cruel captors, who have razed their homes, killed their friends, and taken them away from everything they once knew and onto a strange, dark and cold place.
In case it's not made clear, humans are the bad guys here.
Style: This almost feel like a suspense novel. It's well put together, and you can almost taste the air of despair the apes are in. Generally, it conveys the story really well.
Grammar: While I'm kind of sleepy and didn't pay much attention to this, generally speaking, I'm kind of sensitive to this stuff. The only real mistake I noticed was some longer than necessary paragraphs.
Story: While I can applaud everything else, and this is kind of an important topic most people don't think about, I can't say the plot in and of itself was particularly impacting, nor can I say it made me reflect upon life or anything.
Characters: I really liked how the characters were portrayed here. It's kind of hard to develop characters in a short story, but here we can quickly infer what they have been through, their feelings, and how they aren't doing that great psychologically.
Mark my words, you will root for them.
Overall, I would say my enjoyment of the story as a whole is more or less four stars.
Take into account that I generally try to be conservative when it comes to ratings. Four stars are something like “really good”, or maybe “I really, really like it, but it has some big flaws”.
Unless you have something against primates, or you are one of those "Humanity Fuck Yeah!" guys, I recommed this story to anyone. Well, anyone above 13-ish years of age, I guess?
