Burning Alexandria (short story)

Description

Irwin Gilbert is a hoarder, a bookworm, and quite possibly the owner of what might be the world's largest remaining cache of novels. Irwin has a dilemma, however, the world has turned cold and he has no idea how long it will last. When faced with freezing to death, can he dare to burn "his friends" and how will he choose which will be used to keep him alive?

I wrote it the weekend I learned of Ray Bradbury's death, and it is a homage to this master of science fiction. I hope you find it interesting and worth your time.

This is a really good story. I got caught up in it, any book lover will understand the sense of panic. I keep rolling over different parts in my mind. If you have a few minutes just read it, i don't want to say more and give anything away. All your favorite friends are there.

Great short story! A funny tongue in cheek tribute to Ray Bradbury, as well as all the written accumulations of knowledge… imagined or otherwise… especially science fiction and fantasy. I enjoyed the irony of book burning along with the name dropping of many of my favorite authors. It was a trip down memory lane.

A very different dystopian short story. Loved it. I have burned books, those were usually really awful books, but the character in the story has to choose which books to burn among so many books. I wish this was a longer story, I wish it was a whole book, so we get to see what happened, what will happen. As a short story, this does it's job, leaves the reader wanting more.
