- RznRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Bright Hand is a good read and it has a rather moving plot because it goes to a murder mystery that has Katherine take an interest for once. Though it has a fair amount of profanity and some creepy undertones, it makes the MCs seem a little more damaged than is necessary. They do not have normal lives and it doesn't take long or have to go through a bunch of trauma-dumping to explain it either. The solution to the mystery comes about rather quick and the wrap up is also fairly quick. It could have stretched it out a little, because it all but gets to the conclusion and jumps to the scene where the climax happens. Not a bad narrative trick, but it does feel a little forced when most of the writing has been playing into rather cardboard characters (skewed by the perceptions of the POV). The way in which this happens does break the immersion because it is too clean - skepticism and degradation in dialogue and perception has its place, but it kind of failed at the final moment.
The prose is good, but too many comma splices interrupt what should be full sentences. A copyedit would improve this significantly. It has a strong foundation and decent narrative voice to make it stand out without trying to be edgy either. I liked this quite a bit, give it a read.
