Description
Wrestling with ancient evil and dodging new enemies is all in a day's work for Errol. A low-ranking member of Shark Clan, he’s been tasked with a dead end investigation into the magic darkstorm outside the city, which shrouds a massive causeway known as the Bridge. Centuries ago, the port city of Laurentum built the Bridge to connect trade routes across a vast bay. Now abandoned to the storm, the Bridge begins to stir.
Errol can hear the Bridge’s whispers call to him, begging for deliverance. But what can he do against the storm's horrifying malevolence?

- EamondRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0so, the good first. the characters are not only distictive but written with a depth that takes them beyond their obvious archetypes and makes the POV switches a delight rather than an irritating slog.
the world (or at least the parts of it we've been exposed to so far) have what appear to be a common pastiche of the races and classes endemic to the genre(rpg influenced fantasy), but with enough unique features and fresh spins to blow past derivative straight to fresh and interesting. the hints of political theatre, exposure to the various surviviors/descendents of the bridge constuction crews and group dynamics all add to the quality of the wok, instead of being the iritating anchor to pacing and iterest they could've been.
and now the downsides. in the title i said this story was rather immersive, and while it stops short of throwing you into the deep end with no warning, its not far off that mark.
the stoy starts with the main character interrogating a former Repair Worker/Mason on the bridge who survived the cataclysmic Storm that to this day surrounds the bridge, using the back and forth to inform the reader of The Bridge's importance to the setting,its economic importance to the City and its current inhospitability. But if the bridge was completed, and traffic flowed over it, why must all the characters take a boat to the bridge instead of just walking across and using ropes to cross damaged sections?
What is the role of the Shark Clan in the city? they appear to be a cross between the personal mercenary army of a prominent citizen, a street gang and a guard unit, given they have access to the city armories. but if they're commanded by one of the cutthroat contenders for the city's leadership, why on earth would they be allowed access to arms and armour on the city's dime? especially when there is an actual city guard who would probably object to their gear being taken? if the city guard is being suborned by the sharks overall commander, which would exlain thei
