Rowan and her family live peacefully on their farm after fleeing the destruction of their homeland decades ago. One day, disaster comes knocking and drags Rowan into an adventure that could well see her celebrated as a hero that helped stave off calamity, or cause the death of an entire country. Targeted by demons and the violent group known as the Tarnished, will Rowan be able to survive this journey? Why is she being targeted? And does any of this have something to do with the nobles who are only too willing to throw her into dangers way?
