It's fun. Main character is morally bad in a selfish sort of way rather than malevolent, and that allows us to fantasize about living like her.
Story is so so, with some larger picture things creating a pull on me, while others just being kinda enjoyable in the moment.
Main problem with the story is the editing. They seem to understand the rules of grammar, but there will be several times a chapter (more so later ones) that I have to spend a few extra seconds to figure out what's going on. Like completely forgetting to put quotation marks on what seems to be dialogue or just randomly misspelling names in confusing ways. It's not horrible, or even that annoying, it just probably needs a bit more editing.
Style also suffers from this since there are times when it switches tenses mid paragraph (maybe even mid sentence but I wasn't paying that close attention), which gives us the worse of both past and present. There are some interesting ways they seem to be experimenting with phrasing that I appreciate, though sometimes it can be a bit confusing to parse.
It's also not a comedy, contrary to the tags and synopsis. Which isn't bad since there isn't a gaping hole where the comedy should be, but that means I don't even sense it trying to tell jokes. There is humor, but it's just a few instances of a character expressing themselves naturally or an occasional mismatch of expectations due to portal fantasy. Said humor, when found, is viewed happening to others rather than experienced. This isn't a mark against it, since this does make it fun even if it isn't funny, it just isn't fully as described.
All in all though it's enjoyable enough for me to have binge read in a short time, and I am likely going to keep reading for a while. I am looking forward to how the main plot is shaping since that seems like it might head in a fun direction recently. So keep at it.
*I'm updating this review because I feel differently about certain elements now. I haven't been noticing as many gram

This story follows a tried and true premise with some unique things to set it apart, for example the appearance of some classic species and the part of the power system seen. The grammar is overall very good and mistakes are rare. So far the characters are enjoyable and well written although it has not been enough time yet to truly know. Overall I have enjoyed the story and will look forward to reading more if it.
