Description

Wood. Stone. Iron. Gold. Crystal.

For the fortunate few born under a Champion’s star, these five things are all that’s necessary to shape the world to their liking. Capable of constructing buildings out of thin air and leading mighty armies, these blessed beings vie for power and control across the world.

Among their ranks is Aster, but even heavier than the ancient sword he carries is the secret that haunts his every step.

He is not a true [Champion].

If he wants to keep his stolen power, he’ll have to gather materials, build synergisticstacks, overcome wandering monsters and ambitious peers on the battlefield, recruit others to his cause, and build a Kingdom worthy of a real [Champion].

Author's Note:

Born Under A Peasant’s Star is a Kingdom/Citybuilding LitRPG fantasy adventure that draws inspiration from turn-based strategy gems of the past and modern autobattlers. I think of it as medium crunchy in terms of the LitRPG elements and would rate it PG-13 (mostly for fantasy violence and swearing).

I'm a frequent enjoyer of kingdom building novels, and the mechanics of this one are intriguing, to say the least. I like the more solid system in place here. Prose is quite good, the coalescing plot is engaging, and the writing is polished at a technical level. If the premise piques your interest, chances are that you'd enjoy this story. Give it a shot!

This is one of the rare stories where I can say that this is the first time I've read a fic on this site that had mechanics I hadn't seen in written form here before. The mechanics are fresh and interesting, and if that were the only thing going for this fic it would be enough on its own to give it a shot.
But, it does have more going for it. The characters are interesting, the world seems to be shaping up to be big and full of big bads, the writing is technically good. All around I would say that it's well worth reading. The only critique I can offer would be that the MCs characterization is a little unstable, but given that this is a writeathon novel and is likely being written at break-neck speed, that's not something I care too much about.
    Give it a go.
