Born of Darkness

Prologue

Nearly three centuries ago, a silver-black liquid began pooling into various little lakes and ponds around the world.  If someone saw it, they would describe it as silvery-black, as it is really neither of these colors, but a new one entirely.  Imagine a deep, thick blackness that shimmers with a silvery radiance.  Over time this liquid hardens and turns into a metal-like substance.  Everyone, from bondsmen to wealthy noblemen, often speculate where this liquid might have come from, but nobody really knew, for in the time that these lakes amalgamated it neither rained nor snowed in all of the world.  Some said that one god or another had blessed the world with this liquid, but nobody quite knew for sure.  Even in the last few decades, with all the advancements this strange viscous liquid has brought to the world, not a one person understood it fully.

The liquid is called Tenebris, and it brings magic with it.  The respected leaders of all the great peoples debated on what to call the liquid when it first made itself known.  Most thought it was a godly liquid, and therefore their gods must have already given it a name, and to give it another was to insult these gods.  Eventually, they all agreed that it was unlikely that a god would send a letter telling the peoples of its great name and decided to name it for themselves.  They named it Tenebris, a word from a most ancient respected tongue, which in the common language closely translates as Darkness.

Hey everyone, this is my first try at writing anything, so this might not pan out, but maybe I'll pull through.  I would really appreciate any comments, reviews and advice you can give.  I hope you enjoy the story!
