Humanity has an inherent tendency toward self-destruction.Drowning in hate and hedonism, the worlds of humanity have not seen a true peace since the end of the Hydrian War. It has been decades since humanity saw any true technological advancement. Ruled by a decaying republic, for most of humanity, absolute loyalty and real morality no longer exist. This is the declining state of the Ariean Solar Year 4249.

Sickened by the state of the worlds, Charleston Reeter knows he and the rest of humanity were meant for something better. With the aid of a powerful AI harboring her own intentions, Reeter's New Era Movement will accept only perfection. People believe he will lead them to a future that is nothing less than heaven.

Admiral Gives has seen hell. To him, it's any day he's forced to work with reporters or politicians. There is nothing worse for one of the most hated members of the human race. It is not his business if the worlds of humanity want to tear themselves apart, provided they leave his ship alone. But humanity came to hate him for a reason: given the chance to save the worlds, Admiral Gives refused.

    What might be the best sci-fi on this website, the author takes painfully real characters and puts them through the ringer. Danger and conspiracy at every turn watching the captain experience growth in his old age as he manhandle human space is a treasure. Just cause he's old, old dogs usually have a few good tricks, maybe more than a few he never seems to run out of them. Highly recommend y'all take the time to dig in.

    This seems to be a story that gets suggested by word of mouth, passed from one sci-fi fan to another, and completely skipped by the LitRPG-Only crowd. This is a defiantly old school science fiction story, with echoes of themes ranging from Heinlien to Babylon 5 to Captain Harlock.  If you are in the mood for a serious space-epic, this is an easy reccomend.
    I'm going to break my usual habit of separating out the four catagories neatly, as there is some interplay here worth digging into. This book is a military/political thriller themed science fiction story. It tells you this right up front, and it's not lying- that's exactly what it delivers.
    Unfortunately, that does lead it to one of the more common traps of the genre- overwriting. It's not terrible, obviously, I did rate it four stars for style. But it is there, because the this particular niche of the science fiction genre relies on your understanding the world, the environment, and the charicters. What would be a two second establishing shot in a TV show or movie, becomes a long paragraph of descriptive writing.
    The same applies to the charicter, unfortunately. At least in the early chapters, the author is eager to make sure you know who to root for, quickly. This is complicated by most of the charicters being military of one variety or another, and thus stoic and reserved. (Unless they are enlisted, in which case they are permitted banter.) None of the charicters are bad, but we are told things about them, rather than seeing their charicter emerge organicly. Which is a shame, as they are a colorful bunch under the surface, and I reckon they could carry the day all on their own!
    The grammer is functionally impeccable. If there were problems, I didn't notice them. I can cheerfully give it full marks there. The story is a little trickier, because I know people will bounce straight off Chapter 1 if they aren't familar with the genre. I would strongly encourage patience here.
