Description
In the hope that she will eventually find joy or meaning, she continues, without so much as understanding why, as much as why not.
Encountering noble vampires, powerful martial artists, and haughty mages all the while, her journey will prove to be a difficult one.
This story is inspired by the works of Kinoku Nasu, and various martial arts-oriented stories such as Kengan Ashura and The Raid. Expect a mix of magic, comedy and fight scenes, with a sprawling fantastical world. As a side note, while the story starts off relatively tame, there may be some less than wholesome things that happen later on, so do be warned!

- ArctrusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Unlike Armorien's other work (Bonespore), this story is written in first-person, allowing for a closer look at the protagonist Mayevil's thought process and personality.
That's great because Mayevil is a fascinating character. Whether it be her weird hobby of filming her battles and replaying them, her rough mannerisms from presumably living in the wild, or her interesting interpretations of modern culture, there's just something about her character that draws me in.
With the story entering a new arc in recent chapters, I hope to see more of Mayevil's character as she interacts with the strange city of Wilshington and the characters that inhabit it. - C. Ron IcklerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An action-packed adventure with super powers and a powerful ego that manages to make a god a relatable character.
Style: We're in first person here, a good choice for this story as it allows us to look directly into Mayril's stream of consciousness, adding to characterization and worldbuilding. As the story develops, the writing actually develops a sort of rhythmn that I really appreciated. It's quick, easy to read, and full of well described action sequences.
Grammar: As the style was well done, so was the grammar. It was clear and easy to read.
Story: The strongest part of the storytelling so far is our protagonist's character development, which the author has done an excellent job with. We also get to look at the city she's inhabiting as well as a realm of apes, of all things.
Character: Mayvil has a strong voice, and a lot of self confidence. Understandably so, what with being able to essentially one-punch her attackers and all! The first person perspective brings us very close to her stream of consciousness, making the reader feel connected with her feelings and thoughts moment to moment.
This is a story with a polished style with lots of action. If you are looking for intense fight scenes with breaks of humor that might just have you saying 'OOGA BOOGA,' then this is your story. - Evra-KazeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0For some reason, I almost felt like the story was written with a certain beat in mind. Some part, I felt like I was humming a song more than I was reading a story. This sort of flow mixed with a first-person narrative style of a character who does show much emotion made for an interesting mix. The few times where this type of flow was altered was when a character who lived a completely different life than the main character spoke. Her is an example from the story to better show it:
A few more minutes pass, and the car skids to a halt. As the squeal of the tires touches my ears, so does the sound of Vela.
"Man, it took long enough"
I do not know If I’m reading too much into it, but I find that it helps build the main character who lived a mostly secluded life, and is used to this type of life, met a somewhat cultural shock of a buzzing life in a city. It’s almost as if the author is managing to tell a story with a certain beat of some written words... Like I said, I might be reading too much into it, but if I am right, doesn’t that mean that the story isn’t made by an amateur and it should be given a try?
I think the above explain well the style of this story. For the grammar, I simply saw no mistake. For the story and the character, since the story is currently short, I would invite those reading this review to try 2-3 chapters since it would allow to have a good idea for those. But for the sake of those that do not wish to read, the story kind of get close to a poetical one push man where the main character gets a lot of her strength from nature. This also blend into her personality has she is almost like a best in human clothing that rely on their own instinct more than anything. The fight scenes are told in her perspective, and we see better how she think. Thus, the story is built at a similar rate that the main character is. I won’t say anything about side character since its too early. I can only say that they exist and have a say in where the story goes. - S.N. KeirsteadRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Mayevil is one bad character (in a good way). No spoilers, but she takens on an interesting foe early on and the way the fight was written excellently. It really sets the tone and the reader's expectations of how the rest of the story is going to go.
Mayevil is a fierce assassin, and her voice as well as her actions show that very well. Her tone is distinct and the author shows us how her past has shaped the way she perceives the world.
There's also a reincarnated kangaroo.
There's a lot going on in the few chapters this stor has, but it's a fun read! POV shifts can be abrupt but it's a small thing that can be easily remedied. - Rhea BringRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I love Mayevil. She's highly unique and bad + donkey. My mother taught me not to curse, but you can get the jist.
Now, on to main points.
~Style. Wow. There is a beautiful prose in these pages that is quite commendable. I've always been impressed by this author's use of prose, and feel it sets the stage well here, fitting this unique story and adding flare. The action flows well and I can still picture the landscapes painted in my mind. Well done.
~ Grammar. Overall good, with just a few things that tripped me up. Mainly a few typos or extra words. I can't say a thing. It's hard to get all those pesky little things.
~ Story. It takes a few chapters to warm up to the voice of the MC and get into the depth of this world, but once you do, boy howdy, you'll be hooked. There is mystery, kick-behind action, and humor. It's an intriguing world I'm excited to dive deeper into.
~ Characters. Can I just say one thing about the dialog? Yep, gonna say it. REALISTIC. I could hear the voices in my head. Very well done. Our MC is well fleshed out, so much so I feel we're just tipping the iceberg for her motivations and personality. The little tidbits of her past and peeks into her mind are super fun, making me want more. Characters, to me, are what carry this story. Have seen little of supporting cast, but the little we've seen feels 3D and real. Kudos.
Overall, a fun story I'm looking forward to continuing. The MC voice is distinct and fun, the action flows, and prose is beautiful. Try it. You might just be sucked into a world of mystery, mayhem, and magic. Plus a kangaroo. Can't forget the kangaroo. - KinografyRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0A really good first person story with high detail and enough dialogue to break up the droning on prose making the experience something pleasant to sit through. However with this story come similar faults to the author previous work 'bonespore' and that is a feeling of a lack of an overall vision of the story. Though I am immersed in the story I cannot shake the feeling that certain elements are missing. I'm left questioning not the actions but the context of the world and characters at play.
Mayevil is an excellently written protagonist but Armorien spends a little too much time focusing on her thoughts and perspective rather than fleshing out the reactions and elements of the characters that come into contact with her. Sure the opening chapter begins with a bang but the following chapter fails to deliver the reasons for that bang, instead going into other part of the story which leaves me perplexed on a second viewing. And reading up to chapter 8 I'm wondering if the story really began at all before then since the previous chapters didn't build up to that it moment in a concise manner.
The author's ideas are genuinely interesting but he needs practice looking at his works through the lense of his audience to effectively lay the bread crumps to hook and reel in readers to keep reading. I will continue reading but this is just a short review to summarize my experience with this novel to help the author focus his efforts in a good direction.
