Description
The world had changed when the System arrived, alongside the Cataclysm that filled the world with monsters. The technology was gone, replaced by classes and skills that allowed the people to fight back.
When Devon ended up as a Blacksmith, a class that didn't grant Intelligence, he had to face the reality, that his old career that he loved - mathematical sociologist - was over. Instead, he had ended up as yet another discarded member of the production class, overshadowed by the existence of the System Shops to the point of total marginalization.
But, what if all he needed was to reapply his scientific thinking to the System...

- Continuity ManRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0When you see a title with Blacksmith in it you expect lots of crafting and the things that get crafted. It is safe to say that has nothing to do with this story at all. It is more about overcoming a difficult world structure made exponentially more difficult by alien Nazi brainwashing and artificial classism. The MC is stupid in the way the very smart people are, and so it is believable. The LitRPG elements are so light you sometimes forget they are there. The story is so focused on the MC that the side characters are less impactful but that said they are very fleshed out and consistent.
Its a fun ride over all and I recommend the read. - LanteanjRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The scenario is set in a post System-apocalyptic world reeling from global regression as modern electronics fails and they are thrown back to the renaissance era.
A genius assigned a common brute class feeling out of place gets stuck in a rut in an unknown corner of the world.
In an age where information is at a premium and freedom of any kind is based on personal strength our Doc is looked upon as a joke as he is still low levelled and stuck thinking that prejudices do not matter.
Stats is king. And the kind of stats and class you have decides the pecking order. Intelligence is like having a processer inside the brain, but as the Doc realizes over his stay that wisdom (good old Int Vs Wiz dilemma) is often underrated and people consider stats to be gospel.
The Doc decides to throw the dice one last time taking a high risk high reward strategy doubling down on his Common class.
Dirk never disappoints on character growth and depth and it shows even in the earlier chapters.
Grammar is impeccable as always. I could not find any glaring errors or mistakes.
Looking forward to where the journey takes our unique Blacksmith to. - BleedingTearsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've been thinking of a blacksmith story for a while, and this might just be it. I loved the approach, the post-calamity setting, the thoughts of our MC. The 'edginess' round the first 3 chapters might scare you off, but keep pushing through. There's a good story there, and it's gonna get you hooked in no time if you give it a chance!
- HashTroyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far so good, I like the fast progress of our protagonist and his experimental approach to the post system world. He’s not a pushover either so i expect him to fight in the future chapters even thought formally he’s a scientist. Overall the writing is good, the flow is good and the mc isn’t annoying, the only complaint I have is that there wasn’t much revealed about the changed world so far but it’s only been 13 chapters so it’s understandable
- s0nicr08Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5This book is a fun read with a great mix of crafting and fighting. The main character clearly prefers crafting, but they still get into plenty of battles, both with the environment and other people. The crafting scenes weren't super detailed, which reminded me a bit of Minecraft, but it still made for a very enjoyable story.
- Flea04Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5This definitely soothed my crafting itch in the best way possible.
Smart main characters are my absolute favorite. Devin is definitely genius level smart and I'm here for it.
I followed this series to patreon and binged the hell out of this book. I can't wait for more. 10/10 would recommend. - PassionatelyPointlessRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I feel like I should review this book so far, and reviews are not what I'm good at, but, here goes.
First, stylistically, it seems fairly ordinary. The writing is well paced, and very readable. I mean, I read from 1 - 30 in a couple hours. Good writing.
Story wise, we're hitting the points of the hero's journey very cleanly, and it seems a good thing so far.
Grammar is great. No hard to read sentences or any need to stop and parse sentences for meaning. The writer either has some training or a lot of practice. It's good.
Characters. Characters is where I start to have some concerns about this story. The MC is fun, but not very likeable. Maybe that's deliberate. I mean, he's actively scheming to receive the people who've given him almost everything he could want on a silver platter. And apparently, he has or had no family. No mom or dad or siblings or grandparents or anybody who ever advised him or gave him words of widsom to remember. The villain, so far, is what, internal political infighting? As represented by a jumped up high school jock/bully? The side characters and the main character seem sort of empty. I know we're still in the "numbers go up" section of the story, and it seems likely that will calm down a bit, but it feels as if this story is preordained to to segue into a "political bully is bad", and I, personally, don't particularly enjoy that particular McGuffin. But, hey, we'll see. I intend to continue reading.
Overall, so far so good. Lots of room for character development. Great writing, well paced. It's fun and relaxing. - FurioRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I would like to give a better score because there are some original concepts, in particular I liked the idea of the influence of the System on the minds, unfortunately the execution isn't as good as the concepts. The personality of the MC isn't much likeable but not completely insufferable. The real problem is that there aren't interactions with other characters, we have chapters filled only with the reflections of the MC about the mechanic of the mana and the system, a small amount can be interesting but this overdose is boring.
- lycan246Royal Road★★★★ 4.0Dead series don't bother, ends in a bad place.
It could do with some paring down/editing if the author goes for a novel release, as the base for a decent series is there. We haven’t seen the ‘harem’ parts yet, but you can see it sneaking in places already. You REALLY need to give it until chapter 44, which I hate doing as it’s a turn off for most series, but I was into this one even before this as I could see the potential. There is a great in-depth magic/litrpg system here to dig into. It gave me a lot of Delve vibes, which should give you an indicator for the commitment this is going to be from the author and for anyone to read after a few years. - Trees_Trees,they_are_usRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I am feeling conflicted
It is a fun read buuut the MC is not much of a blacksmith
he finds himself in a world to changed by what was a very reccent system and portaly invasion
interesting dynamics arise from conspiracy he is very slowly developing
If you are on the lookout of smithing fiction without sudden unexplained leaps in logic and complexity look elsewhere
It also takes aaaages for other characters with any depth to appear
It starts to turn into a ruling class esc fic
Kept interesting by the oblique motivation of the invading factions
But 1300+pages in it remains to be seen if any of the intrigue pays of in a meaningful way
So far it is mostly a decent system exploration fic with the occasional refreshing sociological inquiry
