Description

The story of a girl who finds her life is not what she wanted. So she gets another one.

Schedule: Story has been completed.

Book One is available free on Amazon and EPUB.

Books Two to Five are out now. Final Book out soon.

Chapters will be around 500-1000 words. This will not change so if you don't like reading very short chapters wait till the end of the week or even end of the month. This many chapters a week isn't easy to pull off so please bear that in mind.

This is a VRMMORPG story, but the ones I've read tend to use VR as an excuse to get into a fantasy world and then don't really play up the game aspect other than pulling up a status screen every now and then. To me, MMOs are about more than the fantasy setting.

Bugs, exploits, devs who don't understand their own game, OP classes, over the top nerfs, p2w, ridiculous RNG, cash shop fiasco, lockboxes, raging players, broken mechanics, limited bag space, tedious crafting and above all that, a company trying to squeeze money out if its playerbase while pretending they're just in the business of having fun.

Of course, then there's the orcs and elves.

This story is about finding yourself in a completely immersive fantasy game, but it's also about what a game like that would really be like.

I read this story a long time ago and liked it a lot. There's actual character development and interesting plot. There's also a lot less power-gaming than the typical litRPG. The MC solves problems through friendship and cleverness rather than murder-hoboing. You won't see her become God, but you will see a satisfying self-contained story arc.

Short chaps. The story progresses at a decent pace.
Teenage girl unhappy with life decides to try out her dad's new VRmmoRPG pod. Somehow creates a character outside normal game specs, enabling her to interact with the NPCs in a unexpected way. Her gameplay is far different that the normal player gets.
Not too much written about the out of game life, some about family but very little about school, no social at all.
Teasers about the AI but not enough to knuckle down as being this or that so far

I think it all boils down to how you feel about Brit humor. Moody writes a genuinely entertaining story that somewhat shift tones from the beginning to the current chapter 215. This can be seen not only in the content of the story itself, but even in the chapter length, as the length has consistently increased over the months. The tone shift is not a bad thing, as it reflects the life of the main character, Britta, a young adolescent with school concerns. She grows as the story progresses and experiences more of life. Her fellow characters change along with the story as well. Some in behavior, some in just being sidelined as Britta has other focuses at that moment of her life. Simply put, the story, Bitter, is dynamic.
I believe the greatest strength of this story, and indeed Mooderino's other works, is the pure unpredictability. This tale in particular is singled out for this property as it's in some ways, actually part of the plot. And it's fantastic. You never know what's gonna happen, and that makes this the opposite of a boring read. Even the narration, in which at times it seems like the main character is about to learn a moral or 'aesop', it's turned on its head in some hilarious way. I suppose, it doesn't read like literature as you've come to expect it. The Slice of Life tag is the most apt description of this serial, just placed in a world where people act a little exaggeratedly for kicks and giggles sometimes. I will say if you don't appreciate the humor early on, don't force yourself.

Quite the enjoying read. One downsize though: Chapters are quite short and feel even shorter, as quite some slow-paced. So after devouring a chapter in a rush it is already over and when you try to call back what happened you cannot name much.
So it might not be for you if you are a slow reader and want action in every sentence badly.
Otherwise prepare to be unable to stop reading till there are no more chapters and crave for more once you reached the end. (That's not very dangerous with the 13 chapters out now but once there are more better only start reading if you have enough time).

Spoiler-Free Review (as of ch. 93)
The story unfurls slowly, but quickly draws in the reader. It follows the day-to-day life of a high-school girl, tying together VR, teenage drama, and life. Unlike almost every other stories on this site, there is nothing special about the girl. Also unlike almost every other story on this site, readers can probably relate to at least some of the protagonist's circumstances, creating a bittersweet narrative that is emotionally vesting.
There is no solid overarching story (as of yet), but there hints building up to one throughout the novel. The style itself is simplistic, but easy to read. The chapters are released frequently, but are also very short. There are no real issues with the grammar.

Mooderino has made another great story, and I find this one of his more enjoyable stories so far.
The passive build of the MC is interesting. Her problem solving and the interactions with the world is amusing. I have really gotten into the story and want to know what's next.
Characters vary enough and it's great to see the MC developing over time. I like it's less about developing her game's character and more about her own. Her interactions with family, friends and the world show some growth.
Grammar wise no issues. Just a few word errors here and there. Didn't take away from the experience.

at 226 atm and i am starting to think the mc is broken like half the things she gets i see uses for and yet it gets sidelined no comment and everytime she declares she'll make progress, get better or actually do anything she does nothing very fustrating especially since this story is really cool. im not saying i want the mc to suddenly start klling everything but itd be nice if she actually played her class and used her skills. what probably fustrates me most is the gripe other characters give her like saying shes dying more often then others ok her class sucks early game already noted. i mean me personally having gripes about her and the other characters acting that way makes me feel bitter for her LOL

Bitter is both the book and what you feel after reading the entire thing.
This is in no way a bad book, you start it curious, you continue it intrigued and then frustrated more and more. The dream of what Bitter could be never fades until the end, when it does and you finally see this was a waste of time, it will never reach that potential you can only feel bitter about it.
    Let's start with the positives:
the style is nice, nothing bad about it, its mostly third person with the point of view of Britta our protagonist. Nothing really stands out about it.
The grammar is flawless, this is a very well written book, it is never confusing in how it phrases things or how describes the world or the characters, there is very little action but it is easy to follow.
The characters... The characters are unfinished quite like the book itself: Britta is insufferable and even when she grows through the book she is extremely passive, she is a Dead Fish Mary Sue, everything happens to her, everything gets resolved without much loss on her part, the world itself both the virtual and the real one bend to her however they can. Britta is aware of it and does a great deal of thinking, but does basically nothing about it.
The secondary characters are very two dimensional, there is a little bit of attention given to the father, but everything else is superficial and there is a very clear undertone of misandry about it. It is completely fine to have a teen girl thinking boys are stupid, the issue is that every male is negative in some way. The father is a manchild not because of britta perspective, he truly is, the kids are dumb or comically selfish, the male players are either dumb, aggressive or sociopaths or it's implied they did something wrong. The female characters are all strong, accomplished determined or smart, which is fine, but damn... The only competent male in the book is a spoiled rich kid with sociopathic tendencies.
The story is something. It's not very good, but what it doe

This story's initially compelling premise is tragically undermined by its cast of uniformly two-dimensional characters, who seem to despise their very existence from the outset. Their relentless, joyless cynicism is not compelling but profoundly exhausting, smothering any potential for narrative depth, thematic resonance, or genuine engagement. The plot becomes a monotonous slog through their predictable misery, devoid of character arcs or tonal variety, which ultimately renders the entire reading experience a frustrating and unrewarding ordeal
