Description

A UNN fleet on routine patrol near the outskirts of Coalition space encounters a previously uncontacted civilization, but while the aliens seem friendly, the Betelgeusian hive fleet that's sizing up their homeworld is not. Undersupplied and months from the nearest reinforcements, the fleet must coordinate with the locals in order to organize a last-ditch defense of the planet.

    Kinda gave me starship troopers vibes. The main alien species was pretty unique it's nice to see something other than it's a human but blue. It goes by a little fast, but it also doesn't drag out. I will say while Maza the main girl is filled out well her companions however are a little under cooked. the don't really interact with jaeger much for how close they become at the end though it's kinda explained by the whole "flock" thing ,but I would like to see the characters again and further expounded upon. Worth a read!

    Oh what a joy! I read several of these books/stories, but can not remember on which platform.
    But since I forgot a lot of what waas happening, I decided to read it once more.
    Superb story, storytelling and writing, with realistic laws of physics, well worth reading several times over the years...

    I've already read this novel on a different site and I can say without a doubt that it's one of the most entertaining stories I've read. The story has the right amount of intrigue, action and romance with the characters that you probably won't be able to stop reading till you finish it.

    It is a very interesting read with action, romance, and some fun parts in it. It is definitely worth a read if you enjoy sci-fi, romance, or action stories. The characters are entertaining and well written it is a true delight to read. I hope to see future continuations of the story.

    Snekguy writes good fiction, most i've seen is in his Pinwheel universe.  The interspecies psych is well explored as are various tech and political ideas.  This story drops into the middle of the Pinwheel history but easily stands on its own.  There is only one or so chapters in this that are nsfw and easy enough to skip without losing story.

    Fantastic story, the interpersonal relationships the characters develop are just amazing, the smut is just a plus.
    the depictions of space combat are also extremely well written, each time the characters are experiencing combat, I almost feel like I’m there beside them on their wing. Capital ships and descriptions of the enemy ships are just wonderful, very effective at painting a picture in the mind.

    There needs to be a second book to this with the same characters!! There is the best of everything in this novel. Action,suspense,romance,wonder, and nothing feels overly done like some novels I've read that overly fixate on sex after it's introduced. Also ever character feels fleshed out and unique. This novel made me go look at your other books you have. And I will definitely be buying this and number two when it comes out.

    ...from a science fiction perspective it's very much drawing from the same well as Space: Above and Beyond or Star Wars, which is to say that it beats the same resemblance to science that Braveheart does to history.
    From a fiction perspective though, it's pretty damn good fun. A decently fleshed out alien race, fun characters, a good enemy and a few nice action scenes. Well worth a few hours read.

    Good story but with some flaws:
    there are too many explanations, especially at the beginning.
    subjects on which the author returns too often;
    a naivety of  characters;
    story is predictable.
    In short, it lacks subtlety
    It's more subjective but I find it a shame that the aliens are just anthropomorphic animals

    I really enjoyed the first couple of chapters of this one - the space combat was exciting, suspenseful, and well-paced, space shrimp were a nice twist on insectoid alien enemies, and the plotting and characterization were very effective. First contact was handled well, and I was gearing up for an interesting, not-quite-hard-sci-fi space opera.
    And then, the dino-alien-women started talking. Not that they gained the ability to talk - that had to happen for the story to move forward, I get that. Rather, anytime any of the dino-aliens spoke, the story seemed to switch more and more to a matriarchal slice-of-life story that I had no interest in. I gave up when they all got high on THC in a hookah bar together - ! - and skipped ahead a couple of chapters. That turned out to be to the epilogue - if you're used to reading 1,000 chapter stories, this one wraps in I think eighteen. (I actually added half a star for that; I appreciate that the story had a beginning, middle, and end.)
    The tag says there was romance in the parts I skipped; I can't speak to that. I did not like the mix of blushing-bride + dominant female + flock thing the dino-women had going before that though, so probably good that I missed it.
    Anyway: the author has enjoyable prose. If a fighter pilot romancing dino-women is what you're looking for, you'll probably love it. But it wasn't the right story for me.
