- MrCarsonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There are a few things that stand out to me in this story. First is the LitRPG aspect. Rather then level progression it is rank progression. I like that it is in a modern technological world with fantasy mix. The transmigration to reenact a protagonist or a villain has been done but this is the first I have read where it starts off as a side character. I look forward to reading more.
- SovranoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: I like how the story was based on both technology and magic. Although this was not the first one to do so, I'm hoping to see more of this aspect fleshed out in future plots. Finding out which of the two will weigh heavier and what their applications will be will be fun.
Grammar: The grammar itself is fine most of the time, but there were a few instances when it was a bit awkward. Then again, it wasn't so much to the point of it being unbearable.
Story: The plot so far has been good. I like the core idea of how he's trying to steal the supposedly main protagonist's place while not taking the Simp route. The only downside is that it has been too easy for Alex so far. He immediately has the money and skills he wants right after entering the academy, which might leave a minimum of room for further growth for future plots, which is fine if this story is the type that is basically OP from the start.
Character: I get that Alex is arrogant due to his nature and skill, And I'm hoping he gets to be that way in the future, too. But I do pray that you can find that balance in depicting him as such without him being painted off as overly condescending. - TheHaoboSpatulaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An exciting read if you like reincarnation/transmigration.
Style: The writing grabs you right off the bat. It's straightforward but also sucks you into the scene pretty fast. There's a cool mix of everyday life and fantasy gaming elements that make the setting stand out. The way technology and magic are blended together is pretty neat and gives the story a vibe that's both familiar and new at the same time.
Story: We're thrown into the life of Loic Ferblanche, a top student who's all about solo gaming until he unexpectedly finds himself living as Axel Fawn, a character from his favorite game. There's a clever hook here with the whole "becoming the protagonist" goal, which flips the usual game story on its head and makes you wonder what Loic/Axel is going to pull off next.
Characters: Loic/Axel is pretty interesting. He's got that loner genius vibe. The interactions with other characters, like the unnamed girl and Cathy, his sister, add layers to his personality and hint at deeper stories brewing under the surface.
Grammar: The writing is smooth, making it an easy and engaging read. The dialogues feel natural, like actual conversations you'd overhear or be part of, which helps in fleshing out the characters without bogging down the narrative. - D.J. RintoulRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is one of the more unusual stories I've read on Royal Road. I didn't know quite what to make of it at first. Eventually, I realized that although it's not tagged as such, it's full of comedy. Every scene exaggerates some of the tropes that you typically read in a light novel. You want an OP MC who finds a cheat or a loophole in any situation? That's every chapter, and I expect it to escalate over time. He's also not interested in girls (even though that's the only thing I remember thinking about when I was a teenager) or boys (I think he's heterosexual, but I don't want to assume).
The weak point of the story, which needs to be fixed, is grammar. But it's not like this is one of those stories that was poorly written in Korean and then run through Google Translate. This author is a decent writer, but one can tell he's still mastering the craft. The only recurring grammar issue is that he keeps mixing up his tenses in the early chapters. I think this is getting better as the story goes along, because I am noticing it less and less. So really a minor issue.
The style can be very flat in places. However, I find the story is chock full of a certain deadpan humor. The style works for that specific purpose. The main character is literally treating the world of the story like a game that he's playing. He doesn't care about any of the characters at all except as tools he can exploit to achieve the best endgame result for himself. This leads to some hilarious moments when he's just cruelly manipulating people for his own profit with no sense of shame or guilt, or he's interacting with other characters but doesn't seem to understand how human beings work at all. It's very weirdly funny.
Related to the above, I have very mixed feelings about the protagonist. The main character is the most entertaining thing about this series so far. His outlook on the world and everyone in it is literally "I don't care, but I will be the best and achieve the arbitrary goal I set for myself
