A darker than usual take on the already dark theam of a system apocalypse.   The system is not free nore is it fair and no one is given bonuses for starting in a bad situation. The main character must pay in pain, blood and scars that run far deeper than his skin for every ounce of power he wrings from a world gon mad.

This book hits all the right notes. I love the character and I want him to win. I respect and enjoy his attitude. I like the system and the World building.  I like the backstory and the initial set of challenges  then the Intense training regimen.
The pacing is great,  I find myself repeatedly happy with what I am reading and looking forward to what's coming next. I think I'm going to love this series.

I am intrigued by the system here.
The invasion of the world to introduce classes as a total unknown requiring exploration by the main character and his friends as to the particulars of how they evolve and how to develop skills completely works.
There is good combat, as well as excellent social interaction. Now we wait to see how it develops!

to preface, I liked this story, and it has a good system. i read a decent portion, and got stuck on a bit that just doesnt resonate with me well. that said, this story does have some flaws.
style: as with most from this author, the style of writing is pretty good. they use a large amount of descriptors, they show conversation well, and it has a nice flow. there is an above average amount of appearance descriptors (i.e. ugly, pretty,) used in combat in ways that dont make narrative sense or are unnecesary, and the author uses more swears and blunt communication that is normal, but this is normal for this author.
grammar: this author has great grammar, and it is clear that they either have good editors, or they re-read a few times to fix mistakes. they will sometimes overuse a descriptor, but pretty good overall.
story: story is overall good, has some plotholes, but you can ignore them.
    characters:
in the first hundred chapters, most characters are either three dimensional, or well made cardboard cutouts. the MC acts odd, but that can just be a quirk. the MC's companions are there, and do all the good things a companion does, but also lets the MC go off and do his own thing, being more of a group of characters. from then on to the point i dropped it, the characters became more plot devicey, with most being stuff like "greedy banker" "love intrest" "general" "kind store clerk", being less 3-dimensional, and more mediocre cardboard cutout.
    the bad:
in the Post heist, the love intrest combined with the town and the money and power makes the story go from a apocalyptic system survival to a hedonists paradise, with fancy apartments, amazing food, constant refferal to the MCs competense with sex and sex in general, and any and all character interactions being "man, people in power bad", "wow, MCs so strong", "you have so much money", or "wow, i love you". the MC overall is kinda weird in that he hates the elites and complains about their benefits, while being an elite who i

Not going to lie, this book cost me a couple of nights sleep because I couldn't put the damn thing down. Fortunately I managed to end my binge reading in a good break point in the story, now to check out what other fiction this author has created. Definitely added to my follow list.

Overall the series is great but the pacing is all over the place. And we haven't even gotten into the heist part it just suddenly derailed with the lich arch. I mean focus on one thing man. And then there is the PLOT ARMOR. Its so thick you can lick it. I mean it's cool if the OP gets lucky sometimes but from chapter 1 to 53, OP keeps pulling shit out of his ass like essence powers , and resisting mind effects not mention he didn't really explain well what happened after the initial destruction of technology and how the world ended He basically skipped 6 to 12 months in a few chapters not explaining why it happened or how and what were the response of the local government units no he just so casually explained that they hid in a bunker with a working radio for months.

It's a fun read for aure, though occasionally it feels a little ... dark? Juvenile?  Not sure how to describe it, but sometimes I skip a paragraph or two or three.
I like the premise, and the power set exploration. Wondering how it can scale without being too much- but then that's the risk and adventure of reading lots of web novels.
The juvenile feel I mentioned before may actually be intentional since the MC is a young adult. If that's the case then I guess kudos to the author for weaving that right, even if it's a little blah to me sometimes.
To reiterate though, I enjoy reading it, and am hoping the author posts a few more extra chapters up for fun;)

I first came across this author when I picked up Silver Fox and the Western Hero on kindle. Loved it, then devoured the rest on Royal Road. I thought I'd give this one a try as I'm partial to a bit of post-apocalypse (primal hunter, defiance of the fall, etc.). The pacing is good, the progression satisfying (interesting and meaningful) and I'm always a little happy when a new chapter pops up. Critics will whine about the odd bit of misplaced grammar, or that the MC is rather like Silver Fox, but pfft, so what? Great reading, good fun, MH Johnson rocks. So there.

MH Johnson is a really interesting author in this space.  On one hand, Johnson has a distictive style in prose and plot, always willing to tackle the latest trends (whether it be litrpg, cultivation, or here, system apocalypse meets all of the above) but try to make them the author's own.  On the other hand, Johnson makes plot choices that really, really rub some of the audience the wrong way.  Personally, I think the author takes a lot more flack because the audience gets really into the story and then something sets off their pet peeve and pulls them out.
That being said, MH writes really fun reads, especially if you like less-crunchy LitRPG/cultivation stuff and this one is no exception.  I dunno, MH's takes on the flavor of the week are always a blast because MH is more than willing to break the mold, set it on fire, make MC god-king of his little fiefdom, reset the MC, and repeat.  So, you never can be sure how the tale goes, which is a lotta fun.
If you like MH's stuff, you'll like this.  If you hate MH's stuff, you'll hate this.  If you are new to MH, I'd give it a bunch of rope before bailing, as MH's starts can be a bit bumpy before MH gets a good groove and then the click, click, click goes the reader.
Now, a bit of criticism/feedback because I care:
This series (so far) generally avoids Silver Fox's bad tendencies to arbitrarily rob MC of stuff/progression/status so MH can reset the narrative treadmill.  Think the opposite of dues ex machina, at times.  But generally isn't none, and progression fans can get touchy about that if it happens too much (only one cultivation base rupture allowed!) and prefer scaling enemies over arbitrary, unearned setbacks.
Unfortunately, it does repeat Silver Fox's issues of not cycling through the supporting cast smoothly.  This is an issue with MH because MH writes the supporting cast above average compared to MH's peers, so it feels more jarring when a person becomes MC's new best bro or hot love interest only to disappear

I really like how Ms. Johnson writes her stories, but I could honestly do with a lot more sweet compared to the bitter. She really likes messing with her MCs a lot, making them suffer one misfortune after the next. But if you really like it when Mcs are forced to fight for every scrap of power and piece of goodness in their life with blood, sweat, and tears then that won't bother you at all.
Plus, some faster progression would be nice, getting stuck at a low level really sucks even if I know that it'll pay off. I still really want to see numbers go up. The faster the better.
Story is good, I always enjoy her stories. I just want Eric to hurry up and wreck some well-deserved ass. Also, if I could just recommend Ms. Johnson to post faster? :P Honestly, despite the admittedly sometimes uneven pacing, I am genuinely almost addicted to his stories. This one and Silver Fox & The Western Hero are some of my most reread novels, simply because I love the stories so much. The way Ms. Johnson has her MCs find exploits, and do things which should be impossible, but are made possible by the MCs unique gifts.
Grammar is weak, but only really some misspellings here and there. Just needs an editor to sweep through.
I love the characters and their interactions, regardless of what other readers might think of a certain romantic newer character.
