I enjoy how this starts with a sort of 'close up' effect, like a camera taking a wide shot of a village, then focusing in on the protagonist.
I'm not all that familiar with cultivation stories, but my impression is that usually there's an 'elite' who cultivates--and if that's the case, I very much like how the author subverts the expectation. Everyone cultivates, here. You need one level just to thrive in really mundane ways.
I'm also immediately fond of Felix. He knows what he wants, and it's an admirable goal. He loves his adopted father, but feels guilt for wondering about his origins. So identifiable. And I enjoy that he's focused on mental cultivation/meditation.
    The 'flame' sequence is strong.
The whole thing feels unrushed in a lovely way. Yes, this is a cultivation story, yes, he'll get more powerful, there are levels and monsters and such, but the way that that that's presented is far more cozily than I usually see. Very nice.
I like the contrast with Reese.
I'm totally on side with Felix when he takes control and treats the young lady. Rooting for him--then happy when he does well. And then, oh no, everything goes wrong! That's a great moment, and makes me worry for him, which proves how well the author presented him as sympathetic.
The author has 'town' three times in the first two sentences. I'd watch for repetition. Same with 'house' later. Some of the dialogue gets a tiny bit stilted: like 'assist' my father, instead of 'help,' for example.
A fun story with a likeable protagonist … with a mysterious past!

This story has potential. I dont normally like Xiancia but I think this one has the potential to break the mold and I do look forward to seeing what happens next. There aren't many chapters yet so I cant say definitively whether it will be good or bad but the beginning makes me hopeful for a well written and unique story so in conclusion, four stars with the potential for five at a later date along with a revision of the review
