Axiom of Infinity: Souleater

Description
"They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. What then are we to think of it when the gods themselves steal our ideas on how the universe should work? Can we complain when they turn reality into a game? Can we get a refund on life itself? The gods claim they answered our prayers. That they built this world with us in mind. That they brought us here for our own sake. Maybe they did. Personally I think they have their own reasons. We're not the players in this game, we're the pieces on the board.
Still... What if it's fun?"
Axiom of Infinity follows the story of several travelers from Earth as they attempt to make new lives for themselves in a world with monsters and dungeons, where RPG mechanics are as innate as the laws of physics, and where the gods themselves seem to be playing a very different game–one with unknown stakes and strange alliances. Blessed by two gods and cursed by another, one man finds himself at the center of their machinations, a pawn destined to become a queen.
This is a LitRPG Novel built on a hard system with a lot of depth and customization, but which tries not to beat you over the head with numbers constantly. In this world finding and reporting bugs and exploits is both encouraged and rewarded, and the gods have found the most qualified testers in the multiverse: Us. Now the unsuspecting natives of Astra are going to have to learn to live with a bunch of min-maxing, power-gaming, spreadsheet slinging nerds and gamers of all shapes and sizes as we do what we do best... break things.

- theLegionWithinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0not really digging the "gender bender" parts, but the rest of it is so well thought out with a really solid and logical system that I had to give it 5 stars.
the Evil/Law god is easily my favorite character so far - really reminds me of an upper echelon IT guru, one of those storied greybeards of yore. - panzervRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story, we've got a well built world with it's own rules, the system is consistent, side characters have their personalities and traits and the story is kept realistic, no gramatical problems from what I see. Overally a very good story that will suck you in if it's what you're into.
- pipMcDohlRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There are some aspects of this novel that can really be difficult for the reader.
First thing, this story has a very mature vibe. If you frown at nudity or girl biology issues, if you want to be held by the hand with an author that repeat the same thing after a few chapter, if you dislike complex game mechanics and world-building, if you want a light story that you can read half awake... This one might not be the best for you.
And more importantly if you want a fast paced story, flee! The pace of this story is slowed down to a crawl by a constant high amount of complex info dumped on the reader. May it be the world-building, the game mechanic, the personal and emotional conflict and some change of point of view to slow things even more. This novel is thick with info. It made me struggle sometimes.
On the positive side there is no info dumped on the reader that is abusive or boring. Everything click. Everything is thought through. There are hints and foreshadowing as well as foreshadowing hidden behind foreshadowing.
Even when i was annoyed by the massive level of the info dump i couldn't blame the author because everything is welcome. Partly because the info make sense, partly because the story stay immersive even when a wagonload of info arrive when you had just finished a truck. I hope that the author will find way to dilute the info more in the future but it's still acceptable as is.
Style is great with the mature vibe and the ability of the author to not delve too far into politics, they do not shy from bleak scene but never devolve into grimdark, they do not shy from sexual desires and nudity but never let it devolve into porn, they do not shy from evil and good but masterfully depict things in shades of grey. The gender bender side of the story click well with the overall situation of the MC and the chaotic emotional state is well described. On top of everything there is a comedic aspect and humor, well balanced with the rest, that work for me, even made me ca - ArthriticGhoulBadgerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I served as beta reader for this, so I've finished the whole of this first book. Excellent writing, kept me interested the whole way through. The system the gods create in this is really interesting, and there's fun exploits that the MC discovers during their time which add unique twists to the story that I haven't seen before in a story. Absolutely worth reading, and I'm looking forward to the next one.
- Benw8888Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has many advantages that make it amazingly enjoyable. The intricately planned storyline, system mechanics/planned growth, and character development are all near peak quality. The gender bender body swap contributes to the story and isnt played out in a tropey/chiche/gag-like manner.
You can tell the story is great by how so many mechanics are foreshadowed in advance. Nothing feels pulled out of nowhere or a forced plot contrivance- frequently in author notes the author goes “i made this very deliberate choice tens of chapters ago to foreshadow this new way the MC is exploiting system mechanics”. Genius. It’s the sort of story where you’re rewarded for trying to piece together clues and guess how the story will go.
The setting is pretty unique: one example is one of the gods which is a very creative/new take on the ‘devil’ archetype. There are MANY cool system mechanics. Just to name a few:
A bug bounty system to reward reporting exploits in the system, cool mechanics on how the body/spirit/soul interact, daemons/reality stones/souls/dungeons, etc. Lots of soul shenanigans.
Now finally, the gender bender plot. I like gender bender stories, but they’re usually sloppily written- this story doesn’t have that problem. Besides, the gender-bender body swap actually helps worldbuild and setup some later mechanics so it’s a rare case of enhancing the story even for people not looking for gender bender in particular!
The MC inherits the new body’s instincts and also there’s an interesting byplay with remnant personality traces (but not in a cringe way). The MC deals with a body/personality-remnant with a very different sexual orientation and a (well developed and fleshed out) difference in culture/norms. It causes juicy confusion without getting too overtly sexual.
Some minor criticisms (not enough to dip the rating below 5 stars):
1) The start is a little slow and has a lot of information but it’s entertaining as the system mechanics are interesting. Its also well - CamelbakKillerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0do you like complex, well explained game mechanics? Read this book. Do you like interesting, realm-traveling shenanigans? Read this book. Do you like mature resolutions of interpersonal conflict with honesty driving the plot forward? Read this book. By far the best example of how any gender bender tagged book should be, with appropriate respect given to managing conflict against your sense of self. READ THIS BOOK!!
- DumbdogRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Quality stuff here. The author takes his time to do it right and cares about feedback almost a little too much but I have yet to see any negatives from it yet.
The chapters are long and satisfying. There are no plot holes I can find though I thought there was one for a bit. I hope the author keeps it up because these deep well thought out stories are so good when the author puts the effort in.
The characters are rich and detailed so far. I usually don't like books that deviate from the main character to show so what's going on with another character elsewhere but there are exceptions and this story meets those exceptions.
The story doesn't confuse but at the same time doesn't baby you. I'm going to have to re-read to keep track at some point I'm sure. I can imagine in the future fanfic spinoff being made as there is alot to play around with here. The many gods and there agendas. The bi-play between factions could go some many fun ways.
I love the Adversary God. He's fun and not too evil. reminds me of how "everybody loves large chests" has it where the badies are fun in there own way. - Hazer0508Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is an absolutely amazing book. I'm only up to chapter 15 yet I already dread the fact that there's only 21 chapters. There an incredible amount of detail and foreshadowing that keeps me interested in this fantastic story. My only issue with this story is that the side chapters are a little dull and feel like info dumps. can't wait to see how it plays out.
- LibraryRulesRuleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm practically drooling for another chapter to come out. Great system, just the perfect amount of crunch, and the bug reporting might be my favorite thing in the story. I also love the gods, they add so much flavor.
The Tristan chapters are also excellent for getting that extra POV that really shows how horrifying the events happening are from an outsider's view. - NexisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0That Story is absolut amacing.
Perfect writing, so that you really can easy dive into the Story and the Characters.
Highly immersive because of that good Story telling.
Nice long chapters, so you have no Problems to keep reading eaven If only 1 new chapter is out.
Also the sexual assault / abusive Stuff /sensitive Stuff until now are Not Overbord until now and it fits the Story perfectly. We have enough really bad Stuff in our world. I dont have to read about that extremes in Fantasy Stories, the real world is enough. The Autor does a really good Job with that too.
The Characters and actions feel extremely Natural.
But please be aware:
The cliffhangers can be crual!!
