- Akito B. TakahashiRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Now, I didn't get to read the first book (Year 1) on account that I never read the Philosopher's Stone. And keep in mind that this is a review coming from a guy who doesn't like Harry Potter or magic. The author seemed in need, so here I am.
Now, on to her work. It has a solid foundation. The scenes and "magical" journeys set the stage for Avalon's cozy, intriguing world at Hogwarts—something I'm sure will play interestingly in book three.
My issue is that the dialogue sometimes feels like it's explaining things to the reader rather than letting the story unfold naturally. Come on, Hearty, it's Harry Potter. Lol. A stronger emphasis on character actions and more organic weaving in the backstory could streamline the narrative.
Looking forward to book three!
