Description

Asher lives a normal, happy life with his father and younger brother, Adrian. Adrian has always been very weak and often gets sick. However, Asher is determined to help his brother have the best life he can provide him with. Asher, who is slowly recovering from the loss of his mother and learning to enjoy life through music, is one day suddenly bombarded by voices in his head- voices that he does not know. These voices, which are said to be the voices that even Hell could not contain, tell him that he has two options: either live with their torment forever or help them to cause chaos and destruction in return for assistance only they can offer.

I honestly think the title of my review explains it better than anything I can actually write in the review. It's very early in the story right now (Chapter 8 is currently the most recent release), so I'm sure this will get some more traction as things go on, but this seems to be the beginnings of a really good deep dive into mental health issues with a fantasy setting as the framing.
I don't actually know if that's the author's true intent, but that's what I got out of it.
The characters are very well written and likeable. They aren't too upbeat, or too moody and broody, or any of the extremes that you find in fantasy novel web fiction. They act the way you'd expect people to react and they say the things you expect them to say. Despite not officially having pure hearts according to the in-universe lore, I can't tell if Adrian or Elena better fits the bill of "too good for this sinful Earth", but that is more of a compliment to them than an insult. Adrian is just adorable, and Elena just seems to be an overall wonderful person, fitting in quite nicely to the idyllic setting the story has so far taken place in.
We'll see where the story goes from here. It's a fantasy story with Chosen Ones and the like, so a battle to save the princess from the dark lord or something like that isn't out of the cards, but it really seems to be Asher's struggle to find love, maintain his relationship with his family, and cope with past and impending tragedies while suffering from what is fundamentally a debilitating mental illness.
The grammar, sentence structure, wordflow, etc, are great. The only real gripe I have with them are dialogue tags. Sometimes, dialogue will not have an explicit tag, but will have someone's reaction to it in the same tag, leading to confusion as to who's actually speaking. This is prevelant through the story and, while it doesn't detract from it in any sort of debilitating way, is very noticeable and can stop the reading experience dead in its tracks. An ex
