- Hullo55747Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0DISCLAMIER: I may be a bit biased here since this story is the reason I started writing my own stuff.
Style:-
I don't know how or why but the style just works. Maybe its because the setting is so generic that descriptions are not necessary, or that the cliché xianxia phrases are entertaining, or that the simple, easy-to-follow prose is basically meth, but this has a style unlinke anything else ive read. The only gripes I have is the occasional repetitiveness, and the tell-ey nature of certain actions, but honestly? I think that works within the context of what the story is, it's riffing on xianxia tropes and making its own story out of it, ofcourse the prose would be slightly trashy.
Story:
Seeing Hand De struggle in the world despite his advantages, and the bonkers scale that everything operates on is nice. The plot of Han De slowly turning into your average xianxia protagonist with xianxia principles, and the system interfering with his mind is really interesting, and generally seeing how a world with 'Main characters' running around wrecking everything is a sight to see.
Grammar:
No mistakes that I could see.
Character:
The characters seem one-note, but their complexity originated moreso from how they interfere with the story at large, and the infinite threats they provide to Han De and especially his plans. The system itself is a really intersting character on it's own, it's clearly something that exists within the rules of the universe and seems to have its own goals.
Overall, easily one of the most unique and well done stories ive read. - kjartRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Glad I found this (probably through a recommendation on reddit), it's a pretty well written take on the anti-trope side of things. As another reviewer mentioned, the MC is quite paranoid/maladjusted to the setting he finds himself in, yet the story (so far) occurs over a relatively short period of time (a few months, iirc) so it's understandable in that regard. No, fellow reader, you would not get used to a real xianxia setting after a lifetime in an office in a few months. The author is also clearly playing this angle up a bit for fun, based on the alternate viewpoint scenes.
That being said I am looking forward to a change of perspective of the MC to realizing he is actually a Profound Master at some point as it feels like it would be earned in this case, unlike in some other novels I've read. Really hoping that the author continues to come back after breaks as they appear to have in the past to keep the story going as it's definitely one of the better ones I've found on here. Cheers! - VinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Review based on my impressions till chap. 43
The story is interesting and fun to read. Pretty much xianxia with much more logic added. Normally plot armours go way beyond logic but here at least the logic is brought into consideration. The misinterpretations and misconceptions people have about the MC is really fun to read and enjoyable. Don't let the title fool you into thinking this isn't worth it - horrorkusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you start reading this then remember the below.
This is one of the greatest Xianxia parodies ever made.
Not that the list of those is particularly long. It knows what it is about and doesn't stray from the path.
Read it with the above expectations and enjoy. If you seek something serious you've come to the wrong Young Master. - KorielRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Loving it so far. Really enjoyable!
Good cultivation parody of various tropes while still keeping a semi-serious atmosphere. Good jokes and parody while the main characters are going about things in a serious manner, well at least to themselves. - Cranium9Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5I've read a lot of xianxia but this is great a similar vibe to senior brother but this was executed much better.
- BizmatechRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It's 9AM and I forgot to sleep. I also regret nothing. Except that I didn't start reading this a month ago.
Despite being a comedy for a genre that I haven't read before, it's written well enough that the jokes didn't fly right over my head. - RedPineRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0MC's alignment is "pragmatic lazy, borderline evil." He doesnt go out of his way to be evil, but when your only tools a hammer, and you live in a cultivator eat cultivator World, all your potential enemies start looking like nails.
Overall tone is similar to Overlord. Decently written, fun characters, lots of misunderstandings. Sadly, i am not capable of appreciating any joke that has death or attempted murder as a punchline.
Good story, but its not for me. - Guardian BoxRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0While a great and amusing take on the Xianxia-type stories, I find myself somewhat disappointed that the premise of the main character taking the role of a teacher seemed to fall to the wayside as the story went on.
An educator-type character with their disciples, and their interactions, was what drew me to the story the most. Seeing it less and less as the story goes on breaks my heart.
Still an entertaining read. - BliffleRoyal Road★ 1.0The constant, grinding idiocy is too much to be excused as a deliberate move by the author. He draws absurd conclusions from the most obvious, simple situations. He refuses to accept that the people he deals with are actually people. He makes important decisions based on the assumption that he is in a poorly written book, not reality.
I cannot stand this crap. I really tried. It could've been great if the author just had the MC behave like a person, rather than an idiot trying to act out a bad novel at the expense of the real people around him.
