Description
Why do we fear things that look nearly human?
Ubarae, a species of anthropomorphic mimics that live off the lifeforce of human beings, have hidden amongst their prey for millennia. Centuries ago, an uneasy truce was established between the two species, and to enforce this truce, The Organization was formed, a clandestine group with the mandate to monitor for dangerous incubi or succubi and remove threats to the peace.
Rayna Clay, an agent of the Organization, works to protect the people from these predators hidden within human society. As one of the few resistant to their powers, Ray helps to hold the line between humans and ubarae, for the good of both species. But when that final line of defense begins to fail, can Ray and her colleagues prevent a group of radicals from executing a plan that was years in the making, or will they shatter the delicate balance that has been established between the two species and end generations of tenuous peace?
First and Second Arcs now complete, on hiatus for a bit. Doing a bit of editing and cleanup on old chapters at the moment.

- ElkonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is a wonderful mixture of real world issues written in such a way that it forgoes most of the real world baggage that comes the themes.
In short, it is a story based around the realities of cult behaviour and extreme conservation and how much damage they can do if ignored. Reading this story feels a lot like reading those reports on the aftermath of a cult at some points, all from the perspective of someone trying to stop them. The story quickly had me invested and eager for the next chapter.
Now, for the longer review.
For style, the author chose a first person POV that works quite well with how they present the story. The writing almost always flows nicely after the first couple of chapters, and we get to see how the main character feels about everything that happens, which is often how I felt as a reader.
As for the story itself? In addition to my short summary at the beginning, the story also focuses heavily on personal choice and responsibilities of both those that have and have not been manipulated in some way. This can range from literal drugging and mindcontrol, to induction into a cult, to the burndens of responsibility as a leader. This is helped by the fact that there are upcoming plot points that have been forshadowed well enough that while is readers know what is likely coming, the main character also knows, but is prevented from taking action by both the situation and basic human morals.
Grammar is very good for the most part, but the first few chapters do have some mistakes that range from slight misplaced letters, to a word or two missing. On the whole though, there are very few mistakes and they quickly disappear almost entirely after chapter 4 or 5 from what I remember.
Now onto characters here, the fact that the author has made the character both asexual (uninterested in sexual activities) and aromantic (uninterested in romantic relationships) helps keep what other writers would turn into a bad romance, into a thrilling action/ escape s
