- Peculiarflame86Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The rawness of the character is refreshing. Actually shows so much with so little. Just reading this is like being able to look at painting that has another painting within, that's just as beautiful.
I enjoyed the journey I had reading this. It was surreal to me, that a character could come across as so damn real. And this applies to all of them. The main detractor from this work is that it wasn't written to True completion, but yet I can still envision the journey there because the characters are true to themselves. - FellgarnRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5An enjoyable story so far, keep it up.
i have found this style, while it seems kinda, lacking, for want of a better word, kinda grows on you. top it off with a good char building and no really noticable errors(not that ive ever been good at grammer or spelling) and this story can be considered as one of the few gems on rrl. the only things i have to gripe about is the lack of world building, kinda hard to figure out whats actually going on around him, but then again, he doesnt seem to know or notice. - FirstDragonRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Author Vagen has crafted a painful, intelligent slice of life story centered around a jaded, battle-fatigued warrior. The first person narrative is observant and experienced but fortunately does not ramble about world-building matters.
If I wasn't so judgmental, I would hand out 5s like the candy Vagen deserves, especially in comparison to most RRL stories. The grammar is uniformly excellent and the style / favor of the tale is consistent and entertainingly morose. Good adjectives and diverse sentence structures, vocabulary, etc.
There is little "action" to speak of, so if you are looking for descriptive combat sequences you shouldn't troll here. But Vagen isn't misleading readers either...there's no action tag. In contrast, I feel an adventure tag would be appropriate given the MC's current journey arc.
I have sliced .5 off the Story Score and the Character Score for the faster than necessary pace. It's fine to skip combat but then you need a replacement. The tale needs to delve into the world more deeply or explore characters with greater verve or offer expanded, colorful dialogue that draws the reader into the characters and their world. - ElkonRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Very good book but the starting chapters are a bit hard to get into and fully understand so 4.5 stars instead of 5 stars. Everything else is fantastic though with only a few grammer mistakes after the first few chaps.
- The SpectatorRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The only negatives would be you dropped the story and when MC subconscious keeps repeating the three same lines every chapter. Plus the same scene of a brawl turning into murder and running away. Otherwise the grimdark tale was masterfully done. Action scenes were vivid and imagitive. MC personality was spot on the whole time and never bent besides for the young girl.
This world is filled with evil gods and corrupt people. It creates a desolate feeling as we learn the inner struggles MC faces.
A few things I'll change would be the arc with the girl. Maybe have them bond longer and make the MC kill the necomancers in cold blood. Instead of raging and blacking out.
Now if you (author) want more views\followers I'll create another novel with a different, eye catching name and post what you have so far with edits\changes. For maximum affects I'll chop each chapter into parts to make viewers go "Hey, this novel has alot of chapters."
Finally, I think the Vol 2 ending you posted is bad, same as for 3. Have the amazons take him to their island, avoiding the battle royal with spirits, amazonians and 'time travelers' (Really?). Then the parasite business is okay, but dont have him lose his humanity and murder all magic users. Also fighting dragons by himself isn't good. He needs to grow as a character and gain allies for the final fight. Don't have a literal army of Isekai travelers.
For conclusion, this story is a great grimdark tale. The author went on hiatus around the middle of volume 2. The author should really continue this story and not be discourage by the lack of views. With a catchy title and splitting his chapters when he uploads, will make this novel rise in popularity.
Rate: 4.7 - Vze3vdnpRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Interesting story. The story feels a bit lacking in description in the beginning but the style grows on you as the story continues. With more description this would be a story I'd pay to read on amazon.
- TweedledeemeRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Seems like a good story, but is a little too dark and philosophical for me.
It is worth a read to see if it is your cup of tea. - ParesseRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I loved the main character and the graphic depictions of things that happen around him, which can put you into the mind of the character. I found his goals very realistic for a person if they were put in that situation. The story not bring completed passed the first arc pit a bit of a sour taste in my mouth, but I appreciated the summaries of the following arcs so I could at least get a feel on where the story was going.
- HorstRoyal Road★★★ 2.5There are so many words missing or outright wrong in this novel, i just can't read it. Please for the love of god get a Proofreader or someone else to fix your mistakes. I sampled 10 chapters from the beginning to the most recent chapters and i see the same mistakes in all the chapters i looked at.
- The ValeRoyal Road★ 0.5Starts in media res - which is fine. Except there is nothing to lend context to anything going on in the first few chapters. There is snow, and struggle to get through it, some fights, and a tumble down a mountain - but nont of it has meaning and I don't care about any of it or the MC because they are just things that happened with no context.
I could tell you I tripped today and fell in a pool of water and you wouldn't care. It's just a thing that happened.
But if I told you I tripped today and fell in a pool of water while running late on the way to an important meeting that could decide whether or not I lose my job and end up pennyless - suddenly we have a story on our hands.
Context matters. Particularly in gaining and maintaining interest. This lost mine practically instantly due to lack of context. Grammar needs work as well.
