And All The Sinners Saints (A Family of Anti-Heroes)
Community Rating
Description
Sinner’s Way, more formally known as Saint’s Way, is roughly two square mile of abandoned city. That isn’t to say no one lives here, just that the rest of the city it resides in has given up on it and all of the people who live within it.
These people have become a rough sort as crime and poverty corrupt and starve all who live there. If asked, not a single one of these people, even the kindest of their lot, could honestly tell you they’ve never committed a crime. That they’ve never marked themselves as a sinner. Of course that isn’t to say that they are bad people, so much as they are people just doing whatever it takes to survive in an urban hell.
And this hell is where the Demon of Saint’s Way was born, a man with a body count high enough to deserve a kill warrant and an unmarked grave in the gutter he crawled out of. Though just like the rest of those living in the Way, just because the Demon is a sinner doesn’t mean he can’t be a saint too.
So take a seat, and listen to the tale of the Saint of Sinners, Orphans, and Violence as he finds family.

- MelantheRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far, I've really enjoyed reading And All the Sinners Saints! It can be a little difficult to parse what kind of story it is based on the summary alone, so I'll just tell you, reader, that if you like gritty anti-heroes, this is the story for you! Similarly, if you enjoy reading about messed up people that have each other's backs, read on! Personally, I am very excited to eventually get to some softer moments for these characters. I want to see them content, and that's a good thing!
Happily, I can report that this is a character-driven story. It's in multiple POVs, which I don't usually love, but I think it works here. My only complaint is that I'd prefer if each chapter focused on one character- sometimes we just don't get enough time to really immerse ourselves in the POV character. Otherwise, it works pretty well! The characters are unique, and each have a specific role and voice.
As far as grammar goes, it's excellent! There are few mistakes, and none that are so egregious that it pulled me out of the story.
I really enjoyed reading, and can't wait to continue! Thank you so much to the author! - Umbral PlagueRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Got no problems with this, it feels amazing to read and the characters all have their quirks.
Also Clockwork maybe just my favorite side character, even if I only saw him once, he stole the show.
Mercer brings it all together, I almost feel like this is Sin City and he's Marv. Every time I see him work, I smile knowing he's gonna mess someone up or outsmart them.
I patiently wait for more, thanks for the great experience. - JacksonWritesRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story is a lot of fun, and as I said in the title, starts so fast it's almost dizzying, you're thrown into the action right away and it immidiatley delivers from the premise of anti-heroes, fighting and frankly a ton of violence.
The 4.5 rather than a 5 comes with two reasons. First there are some pretty clunky wordings as points that can take you out of the flow, considering how fast this story starts and how much is action that's more noticeable than usual.
Secondly there are some points in this story that require context from the overall Deviant's Masquerade series (See the great comment on chapter one for the explaination of one!). That's fine in itself but this story doesn't provide the information that it's needed, and the result can be jarring, espcially with some rather... violent parts of the world that aren't explained while the characters all just accept that it's happening as something normal. This is especially aparrent in an early character introduction. Frankly without the aforementioned comment as response from the author, I don't think I personally could have gotten over it to end up 'liking' the character.
That said, VERY fun and looks like it's going to a lot of interesting places. Lots of violence, and lots of swearing in the end. Certainly lives up to all its tags and warnings. You're in for the time you sign up for! - WilliamGabriel10Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story has its flaws but is overall excellent. The characters are well-established and have their own unique voices and backstories. There are some problems, of course. The early villains are not very compelling. And the main characters can sometimes seem less sympathetic than the author intended.
However, most of these issues are resolved by the end.
In structural terms, there is only a little physical description. So it can take a lot of work to form a picture of the various locations. Some elements of the world could use more worldbuilding.
Even so, the backstory is very in-depth, and the characters are memorable in a very short amount of time. Among the most standout is Vigilance, a combination of rival and hero antagonist. However, as the protagonist is an anti-hero, Vigilance is the paragon of the group. The complex relationship between Vigilance and Mercer is one of the highlights. Generally, the book's best parts so far have been when Vigilance is involved.
Despite having very little screen time, he casts a long shadow. His character is well-established as an intelligent and morally upstanding paragon. Meanwhile, Mercer prefers unrestrained retribution on the guilty. A history between them has led to them being one another's antagonist in many ways.
You might like this if you're interested in a story focused on anti-hero protagonists. However, it is a very dark story; if you don't like grim stuff, some content might be a dealbreaker. Mercer and Scarlet can verge on extreme as far as anti-heroes go. And Vigilance is clearly jaded from years of working the beat.
Personally, I would recommend it.
