Description
Captain Eric Anders thought his time in the military was over when the war with the Iprenians ended in a ceasefire. He was content to sit back, collecting his monthly pension and drinking his sorrows away. But everything changed when the government saw fit to drop one of its very own super-soldiers into his life. Suddenly, he finds his retirement interrupted by the need to babysit a socially-maladjusted killing machine who has known nothing but war for almost her entire life.
As it turns out, the war itself may be over for the two of them, but the wounds it left behind are very much still present...

- DasfohRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It is not often that I see a story telling the lives of retired servicemembers, and this is a great one. Like the synopsis implies, its about how the two of them open up and grow together. They are well written and their backstories unfold nicely. I enjoyed the POV switches that give us an insight in how the 'Angel' is thinking. As well as how the story parallels the challenges that a real servicemember may face in civilian life. The cherry on top is the conflict that led to the creation of the Angels and how it is tied into the story, and is actually used to create present conflicts in the world that challenge the characters, not just used background information.
TL;DR - Read if you like well-written characters growing and interesting world-building. - Illiterate_ManRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Maybe I just don't read enough, but I've never read anything like this...
In a good way.
The author loves to set things up like a standard, tropey affair, but constantly subverts expectations either for a laugh or for drama. The humor keeps you around for a story that is more than just a vehicle for jokes. - PaperMasterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5While the story has its rough edges, they are few and far between. I have thoroughly enjoyed the ten chapters and hope to see more and the story unravels. While the story does take time to rev up, I am unsure about the future story as there will be those who want more SOL (slice of life) or a more serious story. I would also like to see the Earth in this story and how different it is from the present. The story has its white room moments, but it is still enjoyable. I can't wait for future chapters what you will do.
- thoughttoquestionRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Enjoyed the characters tho I feel their rough edges would probably be more prominent and sticky in the real. Or maybe it really is just that having someone who knows and cares helps realise big changes. Lots of alternaties and room to grow the story come to mind. But the length was just right for this ending. Thanks wordsmith.
