An Age of Mysterious Memories

Description
An Age of Mysterious Memoriesinvites you into the mind of Reggie Shellcracker as they traverse a world that’s barely holding together. Reggie, Lil, Luni, Teuila, and a handful of allies navigate brutal landscapes and strange realities, where survival depends on not just strength, but trust, memory, and a will that’s been broken and patched together more times than they can count.
At its core, this is the story of someone wrestling with PTSD, anxiety, a squirrel-brained operating core, and even self-identity issues, in a world that seems to rewrite itself at every turn. Reggie’s thoughts are fragmented and intense, a stream of consciousness that reflects their fears, humor, and grief. And while their narration may be unreliable, it’s raw, immediate, and painfully honest.
Relationships become lifelines, and every conversation pulses with the weight of lives lost, promises kept, and secrets withheld. It’s an adventure of gritty survival, but also of personal growth, where courage is found not in fearless heroics but in small acts of kindness and fierce loyalty.
If you’ve ever felt drawn to worlds that live and breathe like the best RPGs, where magic and mechanics intertwine and every encounter feels like the roll of a cosmic dice, you’ll find something familiar here. But this story isn't bound by genre expectations or easy conclusions. Instead, it walks a path all its own, one that’s full of echoes from anime, manga, and games, yet never afraid to subvert the familiar.
The journey isn’t easy, and the odds aren’t in their favor. But maybe, just maybe, there’s something waiting on the other side worth fighting for.
For those that are interested, I've got spreadsheets for all of Books 1-3. I even use a certain lootgen that others can try to get similar loot results with. Eventually when I finish book nine, one of my projects is going to be going back through the entire series to paste the litRPG spreadsheets and tables in each chapter, for now, snippets of them are available here or there in the text, and more are available over on mypatreon.

- FlaviaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0My first book read in the isekai genre, but I don't think it will be the last. The isekai genre is a fiction genre where characters are suddenly transported from their world into a new, unknown world. In this new and unfamiliar world, Reggie and Lil must integrate and not only that, but they must also survive without knowing the rules and way of life in this "landing" world.
The book is well-written, easy to read, and filled with suspenseful moments. In this new world, Reggie and Luna not only struggle with new rules but also confront various fears and problems from their lives before arriving in this world. Despite the chapters appearing long, I found them easy to read because the written details don't bore you, and what happens in each chapter captivates you, making you forget you're reading, feeling like you're part of the characters.
I particularly enjoyed the moment when Reggie saves Luna, even putting himself in danger. Reading this part made me feel the attachment of the main characters to the supporting ones and how they are there for each other.
What I liked a lot about this book were the detailed descriptions, so captivating that it makes you feel present there, among the characters.
The book ends with an unexpected endig which left me with various questions that I knew I would find answers to only in the second book, so I kept reading! The book is worth reading for all those who love video games and those who are passionate about alternative worlds because it is a well-written book that keeps you engaged. - Izzy1234Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0"An Age of Mysterious Memories" is an engaging and thrilling adventure novel that will keep you hooked from the prologue. The story follows the lives of Reggie, Lil and other characters who find themselves in a strange land with some rules. They must learn to survive this world and all the challenges that will come their way.
The novel offers a unique take on the isekai genre, incorporating RPG elements. The story is narrated from the perspective of someone with many neurodivergent issues. This adds an extra layer of complexity to the narrative, making it more relatable and meaningful.
The author has done an excellent job of creating a rich and immersive world, and an intriguing magic system. The characters are well-developed, and their struggles and triumphs are compelling. The relationships and dialogues are well-written, adding depth to the characters and the story.
One of the strengths of the novel is the author's attention to detail, the action, the creatures all was so well done. This makes the reader feel like they are a part of the world.
Overall, "An Age of Mysterious Memories" is a fantastic novel that will appeal to fans of isekai and RPGs. - Luca DRRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I feel like this story is very special. It's something else, different in the sense of how it is narrated, what it talks about and how it does it. I really enjoyed it, and even the sense of confusion and loss of direction that comes from reading the first chapters was something that, in my opinion, added to the experience instead of being something negative. I would say it was almost intentional, and if it really was intentional, then good job there.
we follow along the adventures of a protagonist who i cant really picture, even though we are literally inside their head, and their little draconic friend (a sphere tho???) going through a strange world that makes little sense. We have this wonder and feel that they are in a sort of sandbox in between reality and a game, perhaps something like an unfinished project of a bored developer. And that the world is much bigger than what they explored in the beginning.
now, i have to say, this is an early review for now. I feel like the novel deserves more, and i will read more because i like it, but i didnt want to leave it sitting at the low rating it was when i found it. I think it deserves much better, for there is real talent behind the writing. The word choices are interesting, the sentences are engaging, the descriptions literally take me away from here and place me in the very same world i am reading about.
i am loving the adventure, and as soon as i have more time, I want to return to this strange world! - nandini0207Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The novel is simply amazing. It has elements of fantasy and adventure, jam packed with action. The book follows the main characters Reggie & Lil who find themselves in a land with strange rules. These rules are different from the ones they remember or have memories of. The protagonists struggle against not only these rules but also the trauma from their past lives, nature and the wild. They are unreliable at times which I usually find annoying in most novels but in this novel, it seemed to work perfectly. I am new to the isekai sub genre, in fact I think this is my first book from that genre, but I really did enjoy it thoroughly. I am also relatively new to anime, manga, video games and the like but I was still able to comprehend this novel which says a lot about the delivery of the novel itself! The author has done a great job in executing this brilliantly crafted novel to marvellous perfection. The RPG elements in the book were stunningly awesome too! I would highly recommend this book to people who like genres like action, adventure, drama, fantasy, and even just plain fiction. This book is also a must read for people who like video games. People who are gamers and not readers can use this book to introduce themselves to reading as well. The descriptions in this book are so detailed that it will make you think that you are one of the characters in the book too. The book gives a really immersive experience which is hard to find in today's entertainment industry except if you use virtual reality. Overall, this book will give you: beautiful writing, great descriptions, relatable characters, and a truly magical experience.
