This is good for a first chapter, has a hook, gets a bit dramatic - but it sets a dark tone and follows through with some action. The piece is a bit disorientating however because it does not really establish the setting and the twist right out of the gate is a bit unexpected to the reader. It doesn't quite set the hook, but it does end on a cliffhanger.
