America Stranded In A Fantasy World

Description
Most thought World War 3 would bring an end to the world as we know it, and the superpowers of the world knew this as well. Yet when the prices for basic raw materials continued to rise, it was China who first took the steps to war. A war for untapped resource deposits in Africa no less, and The United States and The Russian Federation, moved to counter.
Set 5 years after the resource proxy-wars in Africa in the year 2040. A new Earth eases back into peace. China with what little land it gained in Africa turns inwards to combat the growing instability of the border regions, a military coup in Russia marks a new chapter in its own history, and The United States comes out leaving beaten and bruised, but not defeated.
But on June 15th, a world-altering event transpired. It only lasted for a fraction of a second, however it did more damage than any war could do. The United States, with all its power and might, had… well, vanished. The continental United States, a once thriving nation of 380 million people, now just forest, plains, desert, and mountains.
Now, the 49th President, President John Dresden. Is forced to lead a nation scattered across a foreign world, a shaken economy with the foundations themselves cracking, and an anxious nation. While on Earth, mass hysteria over the vanishing of The United States pushes world leaders to their breaking point, and people to do things they wouldn't even thought of doing just a few weeks prior.
Will this be what finally causes Earth to remember its past, or be what finally brings down The First Realm?

- Durid the DruidRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Been listening to this on YouTube. The audio isn't the best as it's some text to speech program, but the story is amazing! I'm a big fan of the mixing of fantasy and science, and this is right up there with Mercedes Lackey Serrated Edge series.
What does this site mean there most be a50 weird review? Is hard typing this up on a phone, even with a spite keyboard! - YenisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The author is a new writer who bounces around a lot as he finds his groove, but he has created a well-fleshed world. I absolutely loved it; my only complaint is that there isn't much naval fighting. This is due to a monster and a "god" intervening in the story. Without giving away too much, the author uses a lot of correct military terms and explains most of them, focusing on fighting rather than negotiations with other nations. There’s also a decent bit of politics woven throughout the narrative.
If I had to point out a particular character as the main character, it would likely be the president, as he is the most frequently shown. However, the story jumps back and forth, frequently introducing new characters. So far, he has introduced demi-humans, elves, dwarfs, and lesser demons, enriching the fantasy elements. Additionally, every nation introduced in the new world is founded by a different god, which adds an intriguing layer to the story. The kingdoms /country/empires can actually communicate with their respective gods, further enhancing the world-building and character motivations.
Overall, the novel offers a unique blend of military strategy, fantasy elements, and character dynamics that keeps you engaged. I'm writing this at chap 40 as chap 41 has not come out at this time. - toster-ultimaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The only one in this subgenre that successfully sets a tone of urgency and tension. While it is to be expected that a modern military will bulldoze through medieval forces even with the buff of magic, it creates tension through the implication of being cut off from world trade, with other fictions simply setting the economical consequences of this as a side note, maybe mentioning that riots are going on then moving back to seal clubbing.
- Lord CommissarRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Style:
The style and flow of America Stranded (AS) is quite good, rarely, if ever, feeling bogged down. With nearly each chapter dedicated to a single view does help build the story, but of course at the cost of the characters.
Grammar:
Little needs to be said in this regard, the author has an editor, making each chapter clean and easy to read!
Story:
We get a very well done story with great world-building, which for the type of novel the author seems to want will be the biggest factor in whether we get an okay book or a great book.
Though it is not perfect, there are a few instances where you sit back and ask yourself, 'is this really how a military would react?', which is where the idealised America perspective really comes hitting, seeming to drop any notion of thought and consequence over the 'American Way'.
Of course, just like the cover image, it could be the author poking fun, it still nonetheless makes some parts of the story hurtful to read.
Character:
This is probably the weakest part of AS, and with the number of characters introduced, and the rest likely to come, there is simply not enough given to each of the lead characters to make them stand out. Perhaps we may see a select few being fleshed out over time, but we have to wait and see.
Though thankfully this book, to me at least, is one regarding America, much rather than the individuals, so I think a great story could help brush off some of the character issues.
Overall:
It is a good book, and has the makings to go on and become something great. If you are looking for a fun seal clubbing story then this seems to be your fix! Though, at this time of writing with 100 pages available, there simple isn't much to go on, but that is just a matter of waiting to let the chapters build.
