Description

The Imperium is the realization of humanity's greatest ambitions- a society where the death of the body doesn't mean the death of the mind.

In order to preserve such a society, the Imperium's Founders organized a system of rule that would ensure power never truly left their hands, even after they all died a final death. Their 'patterns,' a psychic imprint of their personalities, traits, and skills, would be implanted into each new generation of children.

Those children would grow up to become Nobles, each one corresponding to a different Founder. They would carry the legacy of their Founder forward, preserving their vision for the Imperium for all time. But they also carry their Founder's sins, lives forever defined by a reputation they had no personal hand in crafting.

Izanami is one such Noble, and her Founder is the most infamous of them all. The Deceiver Admiral. The Tyrant's Bane. And while he made sure his name would be spoken in hushed tones for centuries, her ambitions are even greater.

The only question now is whether she'll survive long enough to see those ambitions through.

I am absolutely loving this so far! Protag is a blast to experience, side characters are well developed, and the world-building is so so wonderful. The tech is complex without being too complicated to understand, and the rules of the society are well explained. I can't wait to learn more about this world and see where the story goes.

Some of the best sci fi I've read in a long time, the characterization, storytelling and just overall writing is easily as good as or better than you'd expect to see in a best seller. The author has a brilliant grasp of pacing and portrays a far future incredibly well. Absolutely worth your time to read and get into, cannot wait for more!

Reviewed at 28 chapters, so far story is paced  well and doesn't seem to drag. Characters are interestingly designed and don't fall into the trap of soulless lethality that many characters in this genre fall to.
Very interested to see where this story goes and am shocked that it's not more read on Royal Road.
Maximum encouragement to the author. You have a gem of a story.

I want to start out by saying that the setting itself is very interesting. I won't be putting these in spoiler tags as they're explained in the first few chapters.
A society whose ruling class consists of the personality engrams of their founders mixed in with the personalities of the parents.
Reproduction being completely asexual, and children being educated in a sort of virtual reality before given the choice to construct their own bodies.
Basically the ability to respawn infinitely after death, unless you were killed by a very specific method.
A society close to being post scarcity and all the unique problems that brings.
Overall there are a lot of interesting ideas that are waiting to be explored.
Unfortunately this is where this story falls flat. I'm not sure if I had the wrong expectations going in, but the synopsis didn't mention at all that this was basically a classic Battle Harem Highschool setting, without the harem part.
This is the part that turns a 5 star premise into a 2 star story. There are all of these interesting things to explore out in the wide world, but our characters are stuck at the very creatively named "Akademos", a fancy highschool for the future nobles. And they're going to be stuck there for a good long while. I don't want to sound like a pessimist, but I doubt we the readers will ever see the conclusion of the battle highschool part of this story before it dies.
In conclusion, it would've been much better for author to be clear about the setting in their synopsis, which would've saved me a lot of time I've spent reading this story.
I feel let down after coming in expecting to explore a unique Sci-Fi Empire, space battles, imperial politics, but being stuck at an highschool away from all the interesting worldbuilding.
