Description

Cursed by Zeus as a babe, Adrastos is sent to the oracle by his father, the king, to achieve the means to free himself of the curse's blight. But the freedom he craves is not the weight of the crown his father would bequeath him upon his return and nor do the words of Apollo's oracle fill him with hope of it. Into the wild he goes, chasing prophecy, fearing choice, and finding fate.As my original stuff keeps getting scraped and reposted, only the first part is here for free!

Amaranthine is a huge, sprawling fantasy written just as beautifully as its name! The story features severeal adventurers and adventuring groups in a wide world that, I assume, will likely see a convergent goal. Normally I'd be a bit hesitant in assuming this would be done in a clean manner, but based on what I've read I have confidence that the author will be able to handle it!
The grammar is good- there are no mistakes big enough to be distracting from the story. The style is also handled well- the narrative jumps between multiple POVs. Sometimes the POV becomes a bit messy, changing in the middle of a chapter or suddenly moving between close to a character and then more omniscent, but it's not an unforgivable sin.
The characters are where this story really shines! They're all unique, and each POV brings a fun and refreshing perspective. My favorite character is Ionia! She's clever, powerful, and a bit mean. The character writing is also very well done. Oftentimes, fantasy and sci-fi stories can suffer from exposition dumps handed out through dialogue. There's none of that here, thank goodness!
Overall, if you like high fantasy with a cast large enough that you'll be taking notes, Amaranthine is for you! I can't wait to read more!

Casual, half-attentive readers beware--this story features a large cast of named characters and a plot that jumps around numerous points of view. But thanks to all of that depth rather than despite it, Amaranthine is a true fantasy treat. The story shines with humorous narration and colorful personalities. The world feels intricate and fully fleshed out--I suspect the author's notes are nearly as lengthy as the manuscript itself right now. The plot is moving along at just the right pace for lovers of large-scale fantasy... too many stories here just jump right into a climax in the first or second chapter, while this story is satisfied to give the reader enjoyable/relaxing character moments while plot threads slowly glom together.
If you're someone who enjoys larger-scope fantasy, the care and craft behind Amaranthine make it a more-than-worthy read.
