- SrayanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall this is very enjoyable and relatively complex plot, but not so many characters that you get mixed up.
Characters: MC is very well described and we get a good understanding of her thoughts and attitudes but we also have at least two other complex characters already well described at a fairly early stage.
Grammar: very happy with it, nothing immersion breaking for me.
Style: the story flows well, with no direct exposition. She has a tutor-guardian so short exposition elements can be disguised as conversations between MC and her guardian or her main supporter. It's well done and works well with the plot devices.
STORY The Plot runs very smoothly
(SOME NONSPECIFIC SPOILER INFO)
MC soul-Transmigrates into young but capable female with a noble class (RPG style).
Female has been a "villainess", more like a spoiled brat but in xianxia maybe that's the same. The newly transmigrated MC js able to turn this around, under the guise of a fortuitous improvement in magic skills that can be associated with personality changes (lucky excuse there). Doesn't have any real difficulty getting away with sudden personality change.
She Starts off with a Powerful assistant-tutor-guardian but tricky politics there as they are contracted, and not like a "house-sworn loyal guard" type, more like a mercenary-slave. She Also a (Very) remote parent-supervisor. There are hints of an Important legacy and some reason why her parent/ ancestors are standing back.
Acquires her own fiefdom (noble class req for levels) - but with more local and not-so-local politics (nasty stuff too), and socio-economic woes = the 4S stuff begins. Lots of good plot developing from this.
Currrent progress: Heroine rises to the occasion and acquires some potentially powerful aides. So far an enjoyable MC, complex politics, decent side scharacters, promising plot, with local politics, building up, local exploration. Diverse and interesting. - Sir CivRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This novel creates a lovely story about a soul being displaced into a younger body of a high placed noble girl. This story has realatively quick power scaling but it keeps pace with the threats presented. This author take time to think about what organizations to first found to make a realistic working city and this author does it in a familiar but new way combining elements of adventuring and xianxia. I recommend this story to anyone who enjoys city building/ organiziation as well as a system/ litrpg style progression.
- Consistent MilkRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Things to keep in mind while starting to read this fiction:
The fiction does have some grammatical and writing style issues that may break your immersion. The internal monologue of the protagonist might annoy you in the first two-three chapters. The multiple POV changes in each chapter might also bother some.
But, after you get a reading flow you will be hooked, because this title actually has a pretty thought out and well paced story, interesting characters and refreshing concepts that you will eagerly look forward to evolving in the future.
The Review
Premise: A very very oversaturated genre, although being reborn as a villainess might not be that oversaturated as the whole Transmigration genre is - I am sure that is exactly what you are thinking - I thought that too. On the contrary, there are actually many things that this title does differently.
The Moment: Truly a celebratory matter - System
Story: The story starts with 10 year old Altura, our transmigrated protagonist, moving in as a ruler of a not so propserous land with her Lord Protector Aswelth. We immediately see various plot devices from xianxia, kingdom building, tranmigration etc in action. Although I was a bit suspicious at first about so many concepts being used, but the author has handled this quite well(up to now). Then the story progresses as Altura uses her knowledge as a transmigrator to turn things around for her and the original story where she was a villainess molds due to her action.
Characters: All the characters introduced till now were interesting and written well. I especially liked Altura and Aswelth. There are stories where the main characters are insufferable, but fortunately this isn't one. Except for the annoying inner monologues of Altura in the first 2-3 chapters, I think she is a very well written character. As the World itself is an important character of any fantasy fiction, Altura's defiance does well in this front too. Its world seems unique and refreshing, and one that I wo - Ruby DragonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I personally like the story since it checks off many of the things I like in a story. Such as the main character being a ruler of a nation, there being magic/fantasy, well those are mostly it but its cultivation system is interesting in my opinion. It seems to be a blend of litrpg and cultivation. I also like the premise that in a story even the one dimensional villans and random people also have stories that can be told just are never seen my the MC.
And the fact that there is another MC who is wildly OP is kinda funny even though they are not our MC. - Will It WorkRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Altura's Defiance is a lot of fun. At first glance, it ticks the popular boxes of an original web fiction—isekai LitRPG with cultivation, female protagonist means she's playing the villain character.
But like most tropes, the key is in how you use them, and The Random Cat is wielding the tools well. In almost every case in these early setup chapters, expectations are subverted. The evil henchman? He's just irritated to be the bondsman of a spoilt brat. Those immortal cultivating heroes? Jerks who are actively inhibiting the people trying to build a better life for everyone. Cultivation system itself? Oh yeah forebearers had a big fight, blew up the world, and this is just kinda a patch.
Chapters are short, but come frequently, and I have been impressed. Hopefully our protagonist can keep scrambling faster than everyone and prove that civilization is a cultural power, too. Recommended for diplomancers, merchants, and strategery. Avoid for those who love power fantasies, harems, romantic polygons, or dramatic fight scenes. - theaceoffireRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0So, avoiding spoilers... This story follows a young lady as she finds herself in a position of power and attempts to do right by others.
It was fun to read, had decent grammar and spelling, and I would recommend it.
However, towards the end... Things accelerate. Forever. Then BAM, right into a brick wall of an ending!
Just raw escalation and then a sudden stop... But still worth it to read. - librarysmilesRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0An unnamed person entered a story and becomes Altera, who is personally weak.
In the original story, Altera had a history of borrowing unsavory characters in order to showcase strength.
Now the new and improved Altera is bound and determined to improve herself, even if she has to drag everyone else to gain power in a way she believes is the best. - 0XShadowStrikerX0Royal Road★★★★ 4.0The story was good some parts felt rushed and some parts of it was changed like that plot with the book in alturas past life she questioned it onced but wasnt mentioned again, there was some spelling and grammar mistakes but still good, characters couldve been better with some more character development and interaction but still good.
And thats all i gotta say because im not really good with words and english is not my first langguage and this is my first time reviewing a story. - Sam TolanRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I preface this review with my honest thoughts after reading to the current chapter. I did enjoy this story a lot, and I admit to being biased since I enjoy the genres and themes listed. I love city/faction/kingdom building. I adore villain characters. This story had been one I enjoyed but over time the little things I ignored for so long became obvious. I know the author is young and is trying new things, and I am proud of their growth over the past few months, but I feel that this needs to be addressed.
This story is sprinting to the end and much of what I original found fun in it is long gone.
I have no right to talk about mashing genres together in a story, but in this case Altura's Defiance is severely mishandled. There are too many elements that are tied to these genres and themes that are outright ignored and tossed aside, making much of it seem off. One way to fix this is to focus on certain genres at a time or over arcs/hundreds of pages and slowly expand.
Unfortunately, it would require a rewrite at the current point to restructure the story and fix glaring plot holes.
This story is more a bare bones of each genre, hitting some of the points but not quite understanding why they work or what makes them so common or beloved. This is something that is learned by reading stories in the genres and trying to write, so I would imagine the author would improve further in time.
If I remember right, English is not the author's native language and it is shown a fair bit in this story. Awkward dialogue and phrases, strange word choices and descriptions.
As another reviewer put it, every character is dragged into the MC's orbit and lose anything they had for themselves. They seem to live to further the MC's goals and only exist to help. Character development and other information is told in information dumps and sometimes I can accept it and read on. Other times I can't.
I found the most interesting people are from the other factions, which is both a good and bad thing. - BedwigRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0So, I'm going to say the two things about this story that bothers me; the grammar and the style.
First of all, the grammar isn't that bad, but the tiny mistakes add up until it's so frequent that it seriously bothers me. Sometimes the wording is weird so it's hard to understand, which makes me have to re-read the line a few times, then read the line before that to make sense of the whole thing.
The most common grammar mistake I've noticed are the run-on sentences and the missing periods. Sometimes, the sentences really needs a period, just to end a long ramble of words.
The style is confusing to me. I'm fine with the PoV changes, but I think the author glosses too many things over. Maybe it's because I missed the paragraphs explaining these things, but I'm finding the familial relationships and the overall political/geographical situation confusing. The cultivating system itself is confusing me a great deal. But, to whoever's reading this part of the review, take it with a grain of salt as I think there's a good chance I just forgot or skipped past the part that explains stuff.
edit: I did somehow skip the part about her family
The grammar and style combined really breaks me out of my immersion, and I think because of it, I skim over paragraphs containing important information, which fuels that cycle of confusion I have going on in this story.
I don't think I've read enough to judge, but so far the characters don't feel that alive. They have their individual characteristics, yes, but they feel like characters that came from a mold, but grew slightly different from the usual shape.
What I mean in, the characters haven't made themselves unique from the other cultivation/LitRPG stories yet.
I like the story, though. Keep up the good work, auther.
Update: I think the story is slightly losing it's shine. The pace is speeding up way too fast, and multiple things are happening at the same time. The power level of the characters are all rising too rapidly, I think. From the
