- ArisphodelsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Alluring story with amazing world building, definitely a worthwhile read! I am in love with the characters and how the author portrays them, giving you in depth personalities, motives and genuine reasons for wanting to follow along in their story. Hua is my fave so far <3 Join us all in watching this tale unfold, kudos to Helios for creating this work of art!
- CoJoGoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style:
I'm a fan of how the magic system works/is designed so far. Both the structure of powers/progression, and the consequences of use. The way the author describes those elements is great, and happens early on. the "Book within a book" isn't something I've seen done well very often, but the author here makes you feel like you're experiencing Atlas reading it, instead of just reading through a chunk of text yourself. The way scenes, people, and feelings are referenced is very meaty. It is something I personally enjoy and part of the reason for the five star style score.
Story:
There's a depth to the world, and it's generally explained to the reader when events happen. The pacing does feel out of balance at times and the perspective shifts are a bit confusing in the early chapters. It's not enough to lower my overall review from five stars, but is something that could be addressed through a later rewrite.
Grammar:
There were a few errors, which is the reason for the score, but I also want to mention here that some of the intentional use of punctuation and sentence structure feel awkward but do not take away from the story - rather, they enhance scenes.
Characters:
You'll want to make it a bit into the story before you get a feel for who Atlas is and what he's about. The secondary/tertiary characters range from "there's a ton of future story hiding here" to "I don't expect to see them again". So far, everything seems balanced in the amount of time/exposition given to the cast of characters in Deicide.
Overall - an enjoyable story, with a magic system I'm inherently more curious about. Great start, and hope the author keeps up their great work. - OverXelousRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall, I really enjoyed this story. Even for a review swap, I continued past the amount we’d discussed and I’ll probably continue to read the story after writing this! I will go ahead and say this at the top of the review: Give this story a read! Now, into the nitty gritty!
Style Score: I struggled a little bit with the writing style, as I felt it was a touch too flowery of prose for my preference. Other readers may really enjoy this, but I found myself skimming some of the more detailed descriptions of things that felt a bit too over the top.
Story Score: The story seemed really interesting to me. It’s definitely par for the course in terms of RR. There is a twist on the rebirth that I wasn’t really expecting from how it was described in the first chapter that made it feel unique and a bit fresh. I’m looking forward to how the main character(s) progress.
Grammar Score: I tend to listen/read a lot of things through TTS, which often makes grammar mistakes jump out at me. This story had shockingly few grammatical mistakes, as well as avoided using repetitive words or phrases! Well done, Helio!
Character Score: I wasn’t quite sure how I liked the MC in the first chapter or two, which is why there was a bit of a ding in the score here. But, especially after the chapter and fight I just read, I really like where they’re going. Again, Atlas feels real in the sense that he’s got motivations and emotions driving him while still containing the classic Prog Fantasy / OP MC that we see in these RR genres so frequently!
I’ll just reiterate that I thought the story was great, and any critiques in the review above are meant to be kind and are my personal preference. I would not let any of that stop you from at least taking a look at this story for yourself. If this wasn’t an advanced review, it would say something along the lines of: Yes. Good story. Read! With five stars. - Quiet_CicadaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Review swap, review swap.
Okay, so, there's a lot I have to think about when it comes to this novel. When I was reading through it, I had several pauses in between the beginning few chapters, my mind trailing off of what the story was explaining while I was too busy to read fully. Weeks passed in between my read of 3 and 4, and I was truthfully trying to catch up in what was going on in the story.
Then, I took a moment to... capture myself back in, and- wow. I don't know why, but there's just a variety of emotions I felt during the whole experience. By no fault of the author, I was lost, and being lost really- sent me forward, gave me an exhilarating trip for the last few chapters of this review swap. The word choice, the structure, the pacing- it's a bombastic, vibrant read in my head. I went in uncertain about everything going on, sandwiched a lot of knowledge in between these chapter's paragraphs, and- I- I'm just speechless.
Personally, the characters are okay. They're pretty nice to think about, even if I went out of this ultimately only remembering three. The limitations of knowing characters just being defined by their name and their power, truthfully... which is why it all blew up in my face, what happens. I still remember a certain character that causes events, even to the point of visualizing in my head every single one of their actions.
Everything felt like- I don't know. Reading this novel, personally, felt like I got out of bed and began walking up into the sky and wandering around in space. It felt utterly surreal to immerse myself in this once I got past the lengthy exposition. If you don't enjoy a bit of a science/history lesson with your novels (like me), there's still a ton of shining moments with this book that just made me ascend beyond my own world.
I have no idea if the author intended for me to experience this grand amount of emotion and attachment to the work, but- here we are! I'm feeling a mass array of unexplainable, inexplicable emotion f
