- LucyAzomoniaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I just liked then novel so far and believe it's a good read.
Not a lot of mistakes or atleast they are ignorable.
I believe that the author is pretty good and I haven't really found a lot of other good fanfictions so this gets five stars.
Read the novel and you won't regret it. - deus vultRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I mean, it's a good idea but I personally don't like it. it's pretty much a power fantasy, and not a really good one at that. the side characters are just there to supplemant the hero's ego, which is way too overpowered and without any considerable weaknesses. which is lame considering he is also the only one capable of evolving their power to another level.
all other heros have static powers. he is able to grow stronger and has the power of the avatar. did author really need to give him superstrength and resilience? seriously dude. then he makes him into a rapper backstory, which is just ridiculous. what about character development? high school chapters and shit. I'm giving it a four because I don't wanna be a dick but it's just bad, don't read it. - Mykale KuneffRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Fantastic premise and idea, and it works beautifully for the majority but near the end the mc gets super powerful super quickly and it kinda reduces the feeling of his character growth, otherwise i love it! Lots of great character interactions, lots of good worldbuilding, unique mechanics between established and OC storylines
all in all 7.5/10 - 42offsideRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The first part of this story is just fine. It certainly held my interest despite it's flaws, possibly due to the small amounts of crack included in the storyline.
The MC's descisions seem to make no sense in some scattered cases, because he's under various forms of mental/emotional influence that are explained/revealed later on, so be prepared for that.
Character score is reduced, not really because the MC comes of a bit flat (though he does at times) but because the side characters come off flat as well, in particular the other superkids in the "young justice" scenarios don't come across as the deep and complex characters they should be.
The style is mostly third person focused on Aden, with occasional other characters viewpoints, and works fine for this fic.
Expect misspelling and missused words at least a few times per chapter.
And on to the bad news:
It's *totally* jumped the shark. I've read up to "Vs Apollo" (about 1/2 way through it's 2332 pages ATM) and have given up on it being re-railed. Where was the moment it jumped the shark, you ask? That was when the author refused (reasonably so) to write a Lemon. But then not only didn't give the lemon, but switched to jumping around in time in a horrifically disjointed fashion, AND refused to write the emotionally deep breakup/morning after scene that the story called for.
I had hoped that it was a case of "It wasn't actually a breakup, and I'm skipping around in time to add dramatic tension to that eventual reveal." But that's no excuse for the CONTINUAL jumping around in time that's going on, and that compounds the "holding of on the reveal" bit so badly that I've completely lost interest.
All that said, I did really enjoy the first half of this fic. - Loopy-Bubble-SnifferRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Just another masturbatory novel, everyone suddenly have their mental faculties escape them when it comes to deescalation.
Also the main character goes on and on about his "ideals", btch you just got here, calm down, it's not even your world. So called ideals were conceived by a power trip that's all, a kid on a power trip. - SHADILLACRoyal Road★★★ 2.5When the story started it had me hopeful and optimistic. But as the story progressed the MC just makes it hard to read. The MC gets a small taste of power and all of a sudden EVERYONE is wrong and only his way is right. He has terrible conflict resolution ability and forces everything to escalate to a point where he damages all his relationships. Also, the MC doesnt remember most of the story line he is in and there are some GLARING differences. Yet, he has already passed his judgement on the world and refuses to bend. Maybe its my vested interest in the DC characters talking, but the more the MC interacts with the other characters in the story, the more I just want the story to end. I dont even want to mention the pointlessly appalling thing he did to Aang.
He has to take an air bending test to become an air bending grandmaster, but instead of fighting Aang with his airbending, he just tries his best to make Aang feel like shit until he tells him that his whole existence and all of his suffering is irrelevant. AND HE STILL PASSES THE TEST WITH THAT. I find it pointless to even hold an airbending assessment if you can just use manipulative talk - no - jutsu to win.
In summary:
Story - Young justice with a few changes. Nothing too mind blowing.
World Background - Despite the many changes of the MC and author the storyline and world isnt changed too much.
Characters - the supporting cast are all a bit exaggerated. They personify their traits to an extreme degree but they do feel distinct. The MC is a pretentious asshole who thinks because he read the comics and has powers now he can dictate the life of millions on a whim. - SirantulasRoyal Road★★★ 2.5Aden Strong: Avatar in DC has an interesting concept that sadly falls flat due to the bland characters and Powerboosts before or during most fights, which takes away any sense of suspense. And if something is still too strong? Well then we got the All purpose solvant the Avatar State for that exact purpose.
Enough about my gripes concerning the Powerscaling of the MC and into the reason for each of the Ratings:
Style: 2.5/5.
It's Average. The Author tends to Infodump during the MC training Sessions but they're very descriptive of the Environment. Specifically
The Elemental Plane the MC gets where he can powerlevel the Bending skills.
Story: 2/5.
It's slightly below average as the degree of OPMC Wish fullfillment with the rest of the characters being nothing more than Strawmen meant to highlight the MC's non fiction universe origins, which just makes the MC come over as a pretentious asshole with a holier than thou attitude. At least the fight scenes are well written which saves it from a 1/5 unlike the next one.
Characters: 1/5.
As I've already stated in the Story section the Main Character is Bland sometimes, and arrogantly pretentious at others. The supporting cast being the Heroes of the DC Universe / Young Justice and
Lucifer himself who is currently akin to a mission hub that's more broken than the Main Character
. The former being just bland cookie cutter depictions from the stories that sometimes feel like Strawmen and other times just a bland peanut gallery to make the MC seem cooler,
while the latter is just kind of hard to describe because of him not really being much more than "Oh cool you did the thing, now do new thing"
. Sadly we also don't see any character Development as I'd hoped to see. The Justice League / Young Justice feel static and frozen in their ways and beliefs while the MC gets worse in the Powerhoarding department and afore mentioned pretentiousness
coupled with the fact that the Main Character breaks off from Young justice to do his own
