Three years after the collapse of global superpowers and the rise of vampires as the dominant species, humanity has been reduced to slaves and pets. In a sprawling, nightmarish mansion ruled by The Nightshade Collective—a powerful coven of high-ranking vampires—Luke and his best friend Jake toil as human slaves, stripped of identity and hope. Each day, they navigate the brutal hierarchy of the mansion, where every misstep could lead to punishment, death, or worse.

As the vampires revel in their decadence and cruelty, rumors of rebellion stir among the enslaved. Luke, pragmatic and reluctant, begins to dream of escape, fueled by his growing disgust at the inhumanity around him and the faint spark of hope ignited by a pet who yearns for freedom. Meanwhile, Jake’s hatred for their captors burns brighter with each passing day, driving him to reckless and dangerous extremes.

When a rare opportunity arises in the form of a stolen key, Luke, Jake, and a small group of slaves and pets seize their chance to flee. But their escape plan unleashes chaos. Luke’s desperate gambit to release feral vampires—mindless, ravenous creatures kept imprisoned beneath the mansion—creates a bloody diversion that pits predator against predator. Fire spreads through the mansion as the slaves race through shadowed corridors filled with carnage and unspeakable horrors.

Their journey to freedom is a brutal trial of endurance and courage. The ferals hunt them, and the vampires, though distracted, are relentless in their pursuit. As their numbers dwindle and friendships fracture, Luke must navigate the moral compromises and sacrifices necessary to survive. Outside the mansion’s walls lies an even darker truth—feral-infested wastelands, human resistance groups dabbling in demonic pacts, and the looming threat of a shattered world where safety is an illusion.

Amid the bloodshed and betrayal, Jake’s understanding of the vampires begins to shift. Not all of them revel in cruelty; some are bound to their monstrous nature as tightly as humans are bound to servitude. But Luke’s growing thirst for vengeance drives a wedge between them, forcing Luke to choose between his humanity and his friendship.

Overall
A Vampire Prison Beneath Blood and Shadow is a well-written urban fantasy apocalypse tale that covers, unsurprisingly, a prison break. The story that follows has some surprising twists and is believable. It has genuinely good writing that paints compelling scenes using poetic language and the five senses. The only flaws I would like to note is that there are some grammar and spacing issues. Some of the characters felt a little similar.
Style
Wiggle's style is really good. He draws upon the five senses when painting a scene and is a frequent user of similes. He excels at giving the vital details in a scene and then letting the reader finish it. There is no 'telling' going on here, only 'show'.
Grammar
There are a few misspellings, disjointed sentences, and incorrect capitalizations. Nothing too distracting. A little more serious is the space issues between paragraphs. Should be pretty easy to fix.
Story
The story is another highlight and covers the main characters, of which there are three, trying to escape vampire hell. The cruelty of which is shown without reservation with some genuinely skin-crawling scenes. Without going into spoilers, the plan they come up with is reasonable as is the difficulties that come. Wiggles also excels are action scenes, which there are more of in later chapters.
Character
The characters are believable with clear and naturalistic dialogue. However, I struggled to tell them apart as they seemed to speak with the same voice. This was not helped by the fact that the characters have nothing going on outside of the plot. I couldn't tell you what a single one of their hobbies are or even what they like doing. A good amount of this is forgivable given that it is an apocalypse, but I would have liked to see a bit more individuality to the characters.

Style: Very descriptive and engaging. The author has a smooth way of describing things that are happening. Made it easy to place oneself in the moment and visualize the scene.
Grammar: No issues that I could detect, made for a smooth reading experience.
Characters: There are many characters introduced, though it seems that Luke and Jake are the main characters. Luke feels like a calm and collected character who likes to observe and plan things out thoroughly before acting, while Jake seems more like a loose cannon who can barely hold his anger at check. Both characters are believable and relatable.
Story: Well-paced. Humans start out as slaves, and it seems like they are working on an escape that has as of yet come to fruition. So far, everything is taking place in a castle or manor, I'm not entirely sure. Hopefully, they will soon move out to the rest of the world.
The only two pieces of advice I have are. Keep an eye on the perspective switching; a couple of times, it was clear that the perspective switched to Luke, but it was never mentioned when it switched back to someone else or the narrator. Also, maybe add something to show changes in scenes, like dashes or asterisks.

You might want to consider giving each chapter a chapter heading and fix the spacing issues, with that being said I did find myself hitting next chapter. I left a rating, the only reason it wasn't 4 or 5 stars was because of the sloppiness of the layout. Overall interesting story. Well written in my opinion.
