Description

Mo Duan didn't enjoy being taken from his life and waking up in another world.

Especially when that world was populated by violent kung-fu wizards and he woke up in another person's body.

Sure, it was nice that the person whose body he took over was fairly powerful, but it didn't help that they had so many... dangerous secrets.

Join Mo Duan as he attempts to navigate his life as an Elder of the Verdant Valleys Sect, and tries his hardest to avoid being killed due to the decisions of his body's previous owner.

So I had already read this story on SB/Patreon, so I had a head start. I have really enjoyed what I have seen up to this point. The main character is pretty relatable, and the world (a typical xianxia world, tbh) is interesting. But the story is still beginning, and I would love to see more of it.

I really like this story, it takes the well known cultivation world but places the pov in a decently strong elder of a smaller sect. The main character needs to hide secrets of his new body while also trying to grow in power. A plus in my opinion is that the growing is more about his environment and less about the "single cultivator against the heavens" trope. Really enyojed it so far and cant wait to see how the background mysteries and secrets are solved.
Even the young master trope gets used well by placing one as a disciple of the main character.

For the second time, Fizzicks graces us with a fresh new take on a genre.
Having looked forward to reading what he had to offer in an original fiction (I came as most of you probably will from reading A Nerubian's Journey) I was pleasantly surprised to see my favourite tropes ( Already Strong, Teacher MC and Sect Management) being applied in a way bereft of the typical clichés.
The MC while strong is a hidden demonic cultivator. As a modern transmigrated person having inherited this body, he is quite reluctant to continue on the bloodthirsty and horrible demonic path, especially when his predecessor already made him stuck in an elder position in a decently sized orthodox sect. This setting allows for constant tension between the MC and other authority figures of the sect since he's essentially a demonic infiltrator while forcing the MC to develop his own disciples so that they could aid him once they are strong enough in purifying his cultivation.
The world-building provided to us by Fizzicks sets up quite a number of fun potential future arcs staple to the genre (tournament, secret realm trials world jumping etc...) so fans of the genre are probably in for a treat !
For the Side characters, they are written as genuine 3d persons in their own rights and the occasional pov shift goes to great lengths in fleshing them out (specifically the MC's disciples). Though I'd like to see POV from one of the other elders as well.
As for the prose and grammar, aside from the rare occasional typo, the writing is fine and the prose is somewhat basic, the story is enjoyable to read.
All in All, it's a very good entry in the genre and I look forward to reading it further!

A story does not need to be about the end of the world or similairily grand prospects to be good. No in fact I believe that stories which take place somewhere in the middle of slice of life and plot driven often turn out the best.
This is where I believe 'A sect elders journey' stands, a testament to the wonders that sufficient world building and likeable characters bring to a story.
Now when I say likeable characters, I dont mean characters who are goody-two-shoes or are defined around one good trait. More like people who are reasonable under their own perameters. You can actually begin to understand why that young master is so haughty, without needing to be fist fed material that forces them to be a good person.
Of course it is still very early in the stories making, but it has already surpassed Fizzicks other story in my own opinion, not because it excels in any particular way, but because under the authors own mind and rules the story is made to be a true breath of fresh air.

Nowadays while many are enjoying xianxia with some even creating their own fiction based on it, it is rare to see one that is so well done. Most stories suffer from a lack of knowledge on the foundational lore in xianxia, butchering names, tradition, and logic that makes Eastern Fantasy loveable, reducing it to a pothole of how non asians look at asian culture. This novel did not fall in that pit, instead it builds on these premises and combines the unique allure of Eastern Fantasy, with the style of Western Fantasy.
Noone is an ignoramus murder hobo that is the common weakness of fastfood xianxia, yet there is also no "im better than everyone in this cultivation world because im not asian" logic. It creates a great balance on worldbuilding and character depth. Easily one of my favourite xianxia on Royal Road. It is not on the same level as Forge of Destiny yet but I think the author can achieve the same height given his work on "The Cultist of Cerebon" and "A Nerubian's Journey"
It is a breath of fresh air compared to the typical OP MC power levelling novel and a wish fulfilment story using cultivation as a way of degrading the rest of the world. we need more stories like this and i cant say enough on how much i enjoy reading it.
Good luck with the rewrite Fizzicks! I cant wait to see how the story unfolds next

In A Sect Elder's Journey, we follow the Mo Duan, a normal guy who transmigrated into the body of a demonic cultivator residing as a temporary sect elder in a sect where demonic cultivators are reviled and hunted. Fortunately, Mo Duan has his predecessor's memories, and subsequently attempts to not get himself exposed, to remove the demonic aspects of his cultivation, and to build a place to call his own within the sect. On top of Mo Duan himself, this story also focuses heavily on the disciples in his valley and their cultivation, as well as the other sect elders and the patriarch. The cultivation system is more fleshed-out and interesting than in most Xianxia-like stories, and there isn't flatness in any of the major characters so far; even the ones explicitly characterized as stereotypes clearly have more going on under the hood. The worldbuilding has also been above average so far, with things slowly being built up as we've progressed. I can't really do this story justice in this short summative review, but just know that I, at least, have been following this story for months on SpaceBattles at this point and have not at all been disappointed thus far. So give it a shot! And if you end up liking this story, I highly recommend you try out Fizzick's other works, A Nerubian's Journey and Dark Sun Resurgent; his writing is some of the best I've seen on SB and RR alike

I enjoy some cultivation stories, but a lot of them fall flat for me due to everyone being the "arrogant cultivator" stereotype. This story however, doesn't follow that trope. Sure, there are some arrogant cultivators, but there is more depth to character interactions and motivations.
Definitely enjoying this story so far, and can't wait to see where it goes from here.

It's still pretty new but I'm really liking this story. On a surface level it's a good concept. The mind of a normal modern person in the body of a secretely evil sect elder. He doesn't really have a lot of resources or talented students compared to the other elders but he does have a more down to earth attitude. I'm pretty interested in seeing what kind of effect things like regular office hours will have on his students.
I also like the other 'main' character so far. His psuedo direct disciple. The boy is blatantly arrogant and entitled but that's clearly changing over time. He's starting to have question his preconceived notions and make bonds with people he'd previously see as unworthy of his time. I'm wondering if he might end up adapting more to his master's ideals over the culture of this cultivation world after they spend more time together.

oh, I wish I wish. I can't believe it, I can't believe this novel made my heart beat. The book is excellent in every way. I can't find a single bad side. I wish I had come across this novel 3 or 4 years later so that I could continue reading it right away. Mou Duan is an excellent MC, cult elders, disciples, cult leader, and every character is so well crafted that it makes me forget that this is a cultivation novel. The book is absolutely perfect. I can't finish praising. Whether it's grammar, character development or religion building, it's pretty cool. The chapter lengths, on the other hand, are beautiful. each episode has such a saturation that it feels like days have passed. writer dude. Please keep writing and please don't leave this novel unfinished. this novel you wrote has given me a boost as a veteran reader. And if you readers should give this novel a low rating, you should definitely explain why. If you look at the first episode and give your score, good luck to you. I will also write this novel in my own notebook and I will open this novel from time to time and keep it up to date.

I started reading this even though RR says it is Hiatus. The MC is thoughtful and acts rationally. He is willing to take shake up culture but understands that he needs to be careful. While most of the story is told from the MC's pov it does change around some. These times have been interesting and have added to the plot.
The story does not end on a cliff and feels like the end of a book or arc. So have no concerns about wasting your time reading it.
