A second, [glitched] chance

Description
Glitchlings. Frail, weak creatures, incapable of magic and leveling. Created by broken magic. Hated by the Holy Order and seen quite negatively by the commoners.
Kiresula, a respected magic teacher and [Ice Mage] was betrayed by her colleagues and became such a reject of society, the world, and the [System]. When even the [System] refuses to call her by her name, how can she eke out a living, make new friends, and understand her new species? Oh, why are the Blue Screens of the [System] suddenly turning Green?Important notes:1. I'm not a native speaker, so while I do my best to avoid them, there may be some mistakes. The squiggly lines don't catch everything after all. I will try to correct them if pointed out!2. The story is slow-paced and not combat-orientated. It is focused on discovery and interaction.3. Updated Weekly, inşallah!

- Mr Alex666Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is quite an endearing story, exploring rare questions. What if the System is not absolute and stable (like Windows), but a patched-up mess (like Windows)? What if a previous or alternative operational System is glitching through the install?
What if a poor, random bystander is present, when the System goes Blue/Green Death?
Read the story, and get the answer!
Story: It does have that unique gimmick, that sets it apart from other stories, and that gimmick actually seems to be thought out well. I do feel it a bit rushed, that the MC stumbles on the answer after only one day, when Glitchlings were around for... longer, but it does not detract from the worth much. The story is engaging enough to warrant a 5-star
Style: easy to read and follow, good pacing and diction. I will go with a 5-star
Grammar: while I'm not a native speaker, I haven't found much of a problem here. I do feel, there were awkward sentences and a few typos, and I don't know, if the commas were indeed where they should be. Have read worse. 4,5 stars
Characters: The MC is easy to relate to, and is a happy and serious person at the same time, who doesn't let the System put her under. She is maybe a bit too optimistic and trusting (she's got into the situation just because of that, and she is a bit too trusting, when it comes to the Holy Guard), sometimes bordering on naive. Oh, and she can't keep a secret, even if her life depends on it (it does). We don't get to know other characters deeply. My only problem are the names - too many people with a name, starting with K, and the names aren't easy to remember. I will go with 4 stars.
Total: 5 stars, just because the unique idea. I'm curious, what will happen later! - DimensionalWriter27Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: Easy to read, I was able to understand where everything and every one the author wanted me to know was and what they were doing at any given time, I was never truly lost while reading it.
Story: Pretty interesting if I might just say. I'm enjoying finding out more about this 'broken magic' system, it gives off an sense of mystery which makes the reader want to find out more, and I can say it works really well. I even made some personal theories to myself to what it could possibly be. Plotwise it's developing well, the protagonist is quick to adapt past her loss of a class and her stats to discover the new strengths she has, as well as gaining a class unique to her broken magic.
Grammar: I honestly didn't notice anything out of place here. The language and word choice were both on point, and I didn't notice any punctuation mistakes. Granted, English isn't my main language, so although I can vouch for being perfectly readable, I can't say for certain if it has perfect grammar.
Character: For the most part, all the characters are unique, while also having personalities you can enjoy seeing them interact with each other. The author has clearly put thought into their group dynamics.
Overall: Pretty good, highly recommend to everyone who's a fan of LitRPG but wants a little spice to it. - D.M. Rhodes (Razzmatazz)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A second, [glitched] chance, written by author PenguinsAreScary is a litRPG fantasy novel with a very unique premise. The story follows Kireseula, a caster who becomes one of the ‘glitched’, which are this story's main focus. The glitched are people who somehow manage to slip in between the cracks of the system in specific magical zones and thereby become glitched. They are no longer able to progress within the system like everyone else around them and change in many ways, including in their bodies and abilities. Seen as useless at best or entirely unwanted at worst, the glitched are a niche social group who work together to make a living in a society in which they are no longer welcome in.
The story has a strong focus on showing its setting and world, following slice of life and dialogue scenes rather than fast paced action and combat dynamics. While Kireseula is the main character, we see the perspectives of many others now and then as well.
The spelling and grammar are both good, and anything that has been pointed out in the comments has been dealt with accordingly by the author.
I quite enjoyed the developments of this story, and it was fun to follow how the MC develops into their new life as something considered to be less than human while still trying to maintain those old relationships and ways at the same time as delving into a new existence.
If you are interested in an outcast novel, with strong themes of personal development, day to day life, and social tensions, then give this one a fair shot! =) - Second LawRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0PenguinsAreScary has taken the ubiquituous and common System mechanic and done something crazy with it. And the results are quite enjoyable.
We follow the story of Kiresula, who, as a result of a rather vicious and vengeful prank, loses access to the class system, levels and skills, becoming a Glitchling. The events that follow are a well thought of exploration of what would happen if there was more beyond the system, and is presented in an enjoyable and heartening story. There is no lack of exctiement and progression, and the characters are plenty and well executed.
Style Score : The author has a unique style of writing, which I found enjoyable, but you may have to look past some weaknesses in order to appreciate that flavor of writing. To go over the good and the bad in more detail, I've found that the grasp over english and the vocubalary in itself is quite excellent, but the flow of sentences is a bit odd. I'll be remiss not to add that some of the chapters are written quite exquisitely, giving me a feeling that the author is growing and coming back to re-edit the weak parts.
Also, the author's ability to make one laugh with the silliest of incidents and dialogues is uncanny, I found myself laughing more often than I thought possible in ten chapters!
Story Score : This is where this fiction shine. The story seemigly starts as a tragedy where our protagonist loses all that is important to her, becoming so weak that even walking to her home proves almost impossible. Once home, there is a real threat that she might be disowned by her family, as the Glitchling are considered outcasts and even abominations. However, in a heartening turn of events, things go rather well, and then we get to explore what lies ahead for Glitchlings. With this, the entire premise is setup, and new characters appear and the real plot of the story begins.
Grammar : As I mentioned in the style section, the vocubalary and the grammar of the story is quite on par with any other novel on RR, bu - John Stax (Fobywoby)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This stands out with a very cool take on system mechanics and character transformation. The story's premise is solid, exploring what happens when a character becomes a 'glitchling'. Honestly, just that bit really grabbed me from the moment I first saw the cover art.
The concept breathes fresh life into familiar genre and the author offers a unique angle that keeps readers engaged.
The pacing of the narrative feels fairly deliberate and thoughtful, emphasizing discovery and interaction.
The detailed world-building is definite highlight.
The characters seem handled with care. The interactions between the characters feels genuine and you do not really question how the MC feels. Instead, you see their struggle internally and from the outside. The writing style is accessible.
Overall, the story is an interesting read for fans of LitRPG who are looking for something different. It has a blend of magic, and personal growth, and creates a tale that is both well thought out and entertaining.
When I judge a story, I do so by three main metrics -
Did it communicate?
Does it create an emotional impact?
Does it build a vivid universe for the reader.
And this story definitely does all three. Thank you for writing it. - MelantheRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A Second Glitched Chance is a really unique and exciting read here on Royal Road. On this website, you see a lot of reincarnation, transmigration, and LitRPGs. A Second Glitched Chance takes advantage of the best of these stories and plays it from a really unique angle- what if the system in charge of all this crazy magic wasn't as omnipotent and omnipresent and all-powerful as we think it might be?
Glitching hits that really special break between sci-fi and fantasy. The pacing is great, even if it may seem disjointed due to the shorter length of the chapters. The tables are big and wordy, and the protagonist has lots of fun powers that she uses in creative ways.
This story's weakest point is in its grammar and style. However, the author's native language isn't English, so I give them a pass. Looking into finding an editor could be a great idea, or even just some friendly beta readers. However, none of the awkward phrases or grammatical mistakes were bad enough to make me consider dropping the story. The author made a conlang for this story. A real conlang! That alone is impressive enough to make me want to stick around.
As a teacher myself, the main character was immediately sympathetic to me. I loved to watch her interact with her wife and other characters, but especially her wife. Her wife! A two word sentence that never fails to bring me joy. LGBTQ+ readers have a lot to feast on here, as the protagonist's queerness isn't brushed aside. She has a sweet, happy relationship and the reader gets to spend a lot of time with them.
I would highly recommend this story to any fans of sci-fi or fantasy. Thanks so much to the author! - BugyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I like the premise of a glitchling. Very interesting twist on the genre. The idea that they can't progress definitely makes me curious about how the MC will end up progressing lol.
I thought that it wasn't explained what a glitchling really was. It seems some of it is hinted at, and I also assume that some of it is unknown so far, but I though it would have been nice to have a little better introduction to what a glitchling was in the beginning.
I also wish that there was more of an objective for the main character. It is cool that they are exploring this new system and concept, but it seems that there isn't much struggle or problem that they encounter so far. I guess it just seems like the pacing is kinda slow in some regards, but then some things seem a little rushed
This issue seems to get better as the story progresses and I truly think it will make more sense to the reader later in.
The variance of the chapter length was a lot at times.
Overall, I really like the writing style and the premise of the story. The prospect orf a glitchling is so cool, and I was genuinly excited to see the MC progress for the first time. It keeps many things mysterious, which is an element I liked. Definitely curious to see where this story goes! - Semo HunterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5An interesting and unexpected read.
Style: Most of my issues with style probably emerge from the writer not being a native English speaker. There are some parts that feel a bit clunky, and the writing in general is not as smooth as it could be. It isn't unreadable, but definitely noticeable.
Grammar: Despite the style issues, the grammar itself is pretty good, with no major or obvious issues.
Story: The story was not what I was expecting. From the description I was expecting a story filled with action and danger, a lone woman struggling to survive as the world around her looks on in disgust. Instead, a story containing strong Slice of Life elements, with combat mixed in. It's good, but different from the description. I would recommend the author revise their description to reflect the emotional and domestic aspects of their story.
Character: Naive. Like, really naive. However, that innocence works towards the story's advantage, giving you a strong sympathy for the main character. There are spots where, and this might just be my personal opinion, the MC or other characters are particularly sappy, but like I said: strong Slice of Life elements.
Overall, if you enjoy looking at how a young woman in a system run world struggles to maintain her life in an atmosphere of suspicion and fear, this book is for you. - GodlyskeletonRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The magic system in this story is original. While it shares some similarities with conventional gamelit magic, the execution sets it apart. I haven't come across a magic premise quite like this before, and it adds a refreshing element to the narrative. The focus on magic discovery, human (or not so human) relationships, and the exploration of its intricacies make it a compelling read. The premise is quite stellar, it could go in a myriad of unpredictable and unique ways that flip the genre on its head, and does so, particularly in the opening chapters. The potential for OPMC is quite strong (see what i did there) lol.
But what truly shines in this story is the exploration of magical mysteries. The protagonist's journey to uncover the secrets of the magical world and their own condition creates an air of curiosity and intrigue, and me curious to find out just where it would take her. particularly with the latest developments. As the story progresses, you'll be left anticipating new developments and the unveiling of unique magical skills and abilities. The balance between character-driven elements and the allure of discovering magical secrets is a significant strength of this story.
The only negative here is that the story suffers from creative indecision. it can't decide whether it wants to be action orientated, character driven, or magic driven. if a clear decision was made, then it would be an amazing and brilliant story with a key strength, but due to the lack of commitment to one theme, the story suffers from being a jack of all trades. Either:
-The characters and relationships need to more realistic, well developed and fully realised or
-the action needs to be more frequent and tied to progress or
-the magic needs be explained in detail and fully explored outside of being plain gifts from the system.
the story robs itself of the strength of having a primary focus, despite its amazing premise, and becomes a master of none. focusing on one theme and making it int - Ryker BaleRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Your story has a really interesting premise, and the relationship between Kiresula and Mayana is clearly central to the narrative. The magic system you're developing with 'broken' or 'synthic' magic is unique and adds a distinctive flavor to your fantasy world.
One thing that stood out to me is the depth of the magical details. While it's clear you've put a lot of thought into this, the technical aspects of the magic could sometimes overshadow the characters' emotional journey. Maybe balancing these elements could help maintain the reader's engagement.
Also, the dialogue between characters feels genuine and does a good job of showing their relationship. However, it might be beneficial to explore other dimensions of their personalities or backgrounds, to give them more depth beyond their interaction with magic.
If there are specific themes or messages you wish to convey through your story, weaving them more explicitly or exploring them through different characters and scenarios can add depth. This could be anything from the ethics of magic, the nature of identity in a world with glitchlings, or the challenges of change and adaptation.
It's a solid piece with a lot of potential. A bit more focus on character development and pacing could really enhance the overall impact of the story.
