Description

It is the duty of a noble to fight daemons. It is the prerogative of a noble house to advance their station. Young lord Saul Ficial does not yet have the power to do either, but soon he will embark on a path toward immortality with his family behind him and worlds before him. On his way, he must navigate political intrigue, fights for his life, and creatures with power unlike anything his studies have prepared him for.

Reviewing as of chapter 9, so we haven't gotten into the real meat of the book yet, but I think it's a solid start. Would recommend.
Style: Great fundamentals. Things are well-described without being overly flowery. Not bland either, there is a definable style, but I'm not smart enough to do so.
Grammar: No issues that I noticed. Sentences are well-structured, commas are where they're supposed to be, words are spelled right and used correctly. Nothing more you could ask for.
Story: Again, not too far into it, not too much has happened yet, but I think an extremely solid foundation has been laid. We know what the baseline for the MC is so things can get shaken up. I can tell a lot of thought has gone into the setting, and there's a bunch of subtle things that hint at some larger worldbuilding going on.
Character: MC is good, not a bland everyman like you sometimes get, nor unlikeable like others. He's got defined interests, and has a good balance of being a generally good person with a bit of the self-centeredness that comes with being raised a noble. The side characters also have their own personalities, and I especially like the MC's interactions with his parents and sisters.
The burn is slow as advertised, characters are given the chance to grow, not just sent through a plot woodchipper, and readers get to get a sense of the setting.
Overall, would recommend, looking forward to seeing where the story goes.
