  I think this was slightly too fast of a pace for a one-shot to take. I didn't really have any time to appreciate the mother as a character, fleshing out her and the child slightly could have made this story have a much higher impact, humanizing them, in contrast to the horde of armed people banging down their door to slaughter them. There could have been a great message here, and instead, I am left with confusion.

  This short story has a problem with a lack of context and development. The situation itself is unexplained and the writing is choppy. It has no emotional pull and it is wild, but that does not really work in such a short piece. This is just one page so it is incredibly easy to read. As flash fiction, it does little with that word count and as a result is too abrupt to have much of an impact on a reader.
