- solomonthewiseRoyal Roadβ β β β β 5.0This is one of my favourite cultivation story's. the reason for this is that unlike most cultivation books the sole focus of the book is cultivation. The story from chapter 2 and on is about a man wondering in a desolate plane doing nothing but trying to survive and cultivate. It's also a not a classic western cultivation story where science is giving him a massive leg up.
Quick warning chapter 1 is nothing like the rest of the book so give it a bit before you drop it - Evelyn AdelbergRoyal Roadβ β β β β 5.0Although Iβm not a huge fan of Chinese-inspired settings and 'system isekai' I did enjoy the first few chapters of this story a fair bit.
Let's start with the protagonist. His name is Avery and he comes from out world (duh). I love how the author fleshed out some of his personality traits and flaws in the first chapters.
For example, although he calls himself a coward, he still makes hard decisions (like when he disrupts the teleportation circle knowing full well that it could kill him)
He also isnβt overpowered right off the bat, making his progression feel earned
This story isn't free of the occasional typo, but nothing that would distract me from reading. I also appreciate that the author justified his text, making it easier to read on PC.
The other minor thing (Iβm not going to call it an issue because it really boils down to personal taste) is the fact that system notifications aren't in a box. But there are no more system notifications in the later chapters, so this really isnβt anything major.
That's it for me. Good luck to you, author, I hope you successfully meet your Writathon goals! - Great Love Immortal VenerableRoyal Roadβ β β β β 5.0Story consists of a transmigrator who was too soft to go through killing and to escape his punishment he tries to disrupt the teleportation formation and gets stranded in an area where he can't refine qi. Since he has a system, he uses that to survive in this area without dying to hunger and starvation.
The Mc in this story, does something no other mc in any other story that i've read. He cultivates not for power, not for livespan and not for ego or to face slap young masters, the mc cultivates the Tao to be closer to the Tao. He cultivates to cultivate, this doesn't mean that the story is boring however.
The story from the beginning got me hooked, the rune practicing, the encounters with the tao, the obseravtion in the 2nd book are all fantastic, the grammar is pretty good as it never disturbed my immersion of the story, the dialouge in the 2nd book was pretty good (which i always love in a story) and character development of the character from the first chapter to the latest chapter is lovely.
The only thing that could even consider slightly negative is that reading the new chapters as soon as it comes out leaves you unsatisfied and wanting more so i'd recommend you to store up chapters and binge a bunch of them at one time. - PunpopeRoyal Roadβ β β β β 5.0An enthralling journey into the heart of ancient myth! 'A Lonely Exploration of Tao' transports readers to a realm teeming with prehistoric Chinese legends and untamed wilderness. As Avery navigates the challenges of survival and self-discovery, his quest for strength and enlightenment becomes a gripping tale of perseverance and ingenuity. A captivating narrative that will leave you yearning for more.
- Ep1cRoyal Roadβ β β β β 4.5So , first off, this isnt your typical story from what ive read so far. Our protagonist spent like the first 65ish chapters on his own, and explained his growth. There also hasnt been any harem (thank god), and the story reads well. Not many mistakes in grammer, so I would definatly recommend! Trying not to spoil much, so just know its a good read!
Edit:
Aaah. Waiting for this story is paiiin. Auther, i need MORRRE. :) - luda305Royal Roadβ β β β β 4.5This is a really quirky Xianxia story. Really quirky. The protagonist ends up in a barren,. inhospitable environment unable to cultivate. With just the barest help from his personal System, he strives to under the Tao and survive. This is not a Xianxia based on fighting, but rather on Tao comprehension.
Also, the cover art and volume covers are gorgeous. π - Skeleton KingRoyal Roadβ β β β 3.5Its good and an interesting concept but as always deitification and creating sentience without modification of existing race is not myΒ cup of tea. It just makes me think of god complex. Β In addition the protagonist makes a few obviously stupid decisions that could be avoided by thinking a little. Also the most of the story after he gets free eis just frustrating because of the above reasons. Also this review is mostly so I remember the reason for listing this as "Not Interested".
- mthpRoyal Roadβ β β β 3.5This novel is good, great even. However, it is not for everyone. This is an exploration of a Tao system or something similar. There, at least so far, is no fighting, not even dialogue. It is simply a man coming to an understanding of the dao through introspection.
That being said. It is incredibly interesting and not like much of anything I've read before.
Update as of ch 91:
Ah man. Kicked it down to 3.5 stars. You're losing me here. His most recent interactions with the mortal world feel a little awkward, not in the socially awkward character sense, but like the story is just going through the paces. The new characters like his disciple and the soldier for whatever role they will play feel a bit 2d (though I'm sure that can change with time).Β The main character's actions also feel dissonant from what we've seen of his character. Perhaps it just because we're in a flux state between arcs, but I'm not super invested in the trajectories that have been set up. I still hold out some hope though. - Someone_elseRoyal Roadβ β β 3.0Opening was really interesting and I thought it was leading somewhere up until the point the character starts imagining stuff, and then instead of doing stuff it is just chapters and chapters about this stuff he's imagining for years at a time. This is framed as a way for him to develop his intent to build a better rune, but it doesn't feel very clear how this imaginary world translates to intent at all. I feel like perhaps the author is making a lot of assumptions about the knowledge the reader has of the setting. That or we're just supposed to take the authors word for it that this is just how the magic system works, but without a logical construct to help me understand why imagining a ridiculously sized fantasy world would benefit the characters ability to draw a better rune, it all feels rather tangential and mad. Ultimately, man surviving on Dragon is cool. Depressed Guy sitting around making stuff up however, stops being compelling after a while.
- kokorakelRoyal Roadβ β 2.0im just confused. you introduce things like they already where there and change his personality up so quick. the rewiind thing did not fit into the story and the guy went from coward to im a chad real quick, he shrugged of the fact that the system wouldnt do everything for him way to quick atleast for his personality and if he has this rewind power why didnt he just rewind before the portal?
