Description
A Journey in Darkness is the story of a human girl who finds herself displaced far, far away from home, in a new world filled with wonders to discover and perils to overcome in her very own way.
Waking up in a cave in her pajamas will only be the start of her problems.
Will she find a way out? Maybe. Will she get eaten while searching for it? Probably.
Is she going to be quite unhappy with the menu offered? Absolutely.
Hello! I’m Mr. White and this is my first story. I hope you will like it!
In this tale you won’t find a powerful main character conquering the new evil world with only the power of his tortured soul. What youwillfind is a normal person growing and finding her way despite the hardships she encounters in a world that is not so black and white.
I will be posting everyTuesdayandFridayand I’ll try to keep as large a backlog as possible.
English is not my first language so I hope you will inform me if you find any mistake in the chapters.

- wothereRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Excellent story with several unique twists on the genre and excellently weaved with a lot of thought and research.
Style: constant and fleshed out all along. The author knows how to make us understand and feel what is going on and how the characters feel while keeping it part of the pace and story. I am not a fan of the way colored font is used (and admitedly, still confused b it at times), but that's probably more an opinion than a critic.
Story: the only reason it is not rated 5/5 is that I know it is not for everyone. This story definitely knows what is wants to be and how to get there, and the author clearly puts a ot researsh in every part of the setting (minor spoiler: and considering the main character is a biomencer who can see bodies at a cellular and molecular level; that's really saying something) but it is slow burn and very detailed. Everything happens for a reason and not just because the plot needs it to happen. And by everything, I truly mean everything. In short, be there for the long haul, because there is no instant gratification, wish fulfilment or sudden level up here.
Grammar: a few mistakes here and there, but frankly negliectible. I dn't even remember them, and they definitely didn't take away from the story.
Character: absolutely perfect. The main character is not an archetype who just go with the flow or stick to societal norm even if it kills her, but she actually behaves like a real person from our world would. (And a strong willed one, which I have a soft spot for.) There is an actual inner struggle to go with the survival stuggle, and it is shown even in the subtle ways. A true progressive, survival- and exposure-fueled emotional growth, that is in itself something she struggles.
The secondary characters (whose existence and nature will surprise more than a few readers) are just as defined, unique and memorable. They all have clear specialities and personalities, and it just bleed into each of their interactions. - ArmadilloSlothRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Biology, weird majicks, funny eldritch fuckery, one goblinoid girl living caveman life. Good. I enjoyed the sections with the creatures, characters, and biology the most. Didn't care much for the survival aspects, but they were kind of cool to see in the end. Really like the magic creature designs. Favorite part honestly. Enough gore and trauma to tickle my fancy, enough humor to keep things grounded in relatibility.
- Billg001024Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Thanks to Mr. Wight for the fun read. The journey is thus far interesting.. The mc is well written and interesting. The supporting characters are unique. Very well written. I enjoy reading books on the sight but I think it irritating to have a minimum word count when I just want to leave a quick thanks to the author.
- Blue09Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0So - not much to say about this story, expect it got me hooked. How did that happened?
There is first our protagonist who is quite likable. THAT! is something realy important imho. If you find an MC anoying, you will find fault everywhere ending with you maybe reading the story, but not (fully) enjoying it.
Then there is the fact that her Biomancer class isnt some kind of OP win it all button. It takes a lot of work for her to survive and biomancer is just a tool to - somehow - survive. Oh, OH! and she dosnt turn herselfe into some kind of abomination. Changes yes, but all in a sense where modern medicine might get at some point (or you could find them at least in a (hard)SiFi too).
The setting - now thats someting. Its not super new - but it feels... not real, not completly, but relatable and of all things, its well depicted. A cave biom, not a Dungeoncrawler cave. Meaning: You feel as if under certain circumstances, this place could actually exist.
Style of writing you ask? Pretty good, its flow is nice. The author also understands that you cant just run to a climax and then stay there, no, there are fast and slow scenes, wins and loses, ups and downs.
All in all - a very good read, so if you're looking for something to read that isnt just meant to rot your brain, this is a good investment of your time, as you wont feel regreting spending time on it. - ShaggySchmackyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall, the story is pretty good. There are very few grammar mistakes, the abilities are well thought out, and all the characters (including the non-human ones) feel real and have very definitive personalities. Fair warning though, the story is a bit slow paced (but not necessaily in a bad way). The author really takes his time developing the world and his MC and does a good deal of research to make his story feel more grounded in reality (despite the involvement of magic).
- ValentineNRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There's no "horror" tag, but it wouldn't have been out of place.
There's permanent darkness, caves, tight crawlspaces, insects of all kinds AND sizes, which in a fantasy world always means ... more.
There are also spiders, trippy mushrooms and raw "food".
It's interesting, but sometimes I get the feeling that I'm waiting more to see what happens if/when she escapes the caves. - chikiwilsonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I thought I should give a review since I noticed no one else has and the story has had a promising start.
Style
The style of the story so far is good. It reads slightly comedic but in a darker sense (think Azarinth healer's style for reference) and also flows well.
Story
So far, the story hasn't had enough chapters to be properly uncovered however the start has an interesting premise.
Grammer
I haven't noticed any spelling errors or grammer errors so far.
Characters
We have only been introduced to the main character so far, however, she seem likeable and thought out, and, most importantly, real.
Overall, I think the story has an interesting premise and, so long as it keeps a consistent, semi-frequent upload schedule, it could turn out to be a great story :) - darksevenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A journey in darkness is the (small spoiler) biomancer story I never knew I needed.
The story is well written with few errors. The plot is super interesting though not character heavy.
If you enjoyed the 'cave' portion of kumo desu ga nani ka, than this might be for you. I would note her 'ramp' to power is far far more gradual. She struggles for every success and is absolutely awesome. - jesse OnugboluRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’ve been waiting for so long for this story to continue but that seems impossible now. I’m not gonna lie, the first chapters were subpar, but with each chapter after. It got better, the magic system more elaborate, the settings the stakes even better, added with the fact that the only human char is the mc, so you’d know the mc is likeable and complex. I really wanted to see her make it to the top. Ah well.
- thewitnessRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It ticks all of the boxes I like in a character to start a story like this with, a strong willed female in harsh situation overcoming her horrifically dangerous scenario.
On top of this the chosen setting of starting far from any normal humans so we can adjust to this reality before eventually meeting them on her own terms appeals (though the potential for many other types of 'first contact' remain all of which having just as much potential), and I love the minimalistic system type alongside the updates in sleep stopping it from interfering in the immersion of her deadly survival story and the immediate but still extremely open explanation of the system/power she has simultaneously leaving lots of obvious room for growth without hinting at how she will truly grow within her archetype.
finally I love the chosen archetype of biomancer because let's face it biomancers are cool, with their adaption, regeneration and lack of easy power - any power she gains is a result of modify herself for it which gives it a layer of separation from her just gaining this power which makes all the difference to the reader.
so overall I love it and want more as soon as possible (though the quality retained so far is an important factor to your website style as I have experience it so take that request as the grumbling of a reader finding a new good story without enough already out to satiate their hunger - in other words ignore me and do you!!!)
