Description

Aster Spinel was never ashamed of what he was. A magic nut, a practitioner of its art. He was a researcher with a goal of finding the very secrets of his chosen field. His only ambition?

To create a new branch of the ways of the arcane.

Yet somehow, someway this Hermit, who only wanted to hide and discover magic found himself caught in a situation completely out of his league. Entering the magical capital of the world - in a world that discriminates against his kind - would have felled any lesser Hermit.

Luckily, Aster liked to think he was anything but.

    NO TRESSPASSING
This story is a hermit and it doesn't want to be bothered. Stay away and mind your own business. It might allow for a visit or two if you are an old friend but don't stay for too long. You will be ignored anyway...
(Stay away! This review is also a hermit and doesn't like useless company. I take no responsibility if it will attack you. Approach at your own risk. Beware - unpredictable when enraged.)
(As you get closer to the review's lair you pass a countless number of broken letters and words scattered all around the muddy terrain. After a long treck you spot a barely visable cave's entrance - barely if not for a large red sign "KEEP OUT". A feeling of uneasiness creeps inside you but you decide to ignore it and bravely step inside.)
(After ten even bigger and redder signs suggesting that you are not completely welcome here you finally arrive at the Review's cave. And then you see it. Between piles of chaotic sentences, twisted adjectives, past tenses and even few mathematical formulas - in a wooden chair sits somehow ill looking review... It's pale, unkept letters glow in the dim light of various screens. Not even a minute passes before it notices you...)
(The review looks at you distrustfully)
-And who are you?...- (Echoes its text through the cave)
(As it inspects you carefully a spark of recognition and iritation flickers in its eyes.)
-Ah... You...- (It points its letter at you)
-Just listen and go I have better things to do than being read by bothersome visitors. I will make it fast.-
(Somwhat taken aback by the rude behaviour you decide wisely to stay shut reminding yourself the author's notice.)
(The review grumpily curses under its dots as you stand there waiting)
-Ok... You are persistent. Listen up! Style was good. Story tasty. Characters sweet. Grammar ok. Overall 5stars. Now get the fook out of my cave!-
(An angry stare cuts off any of your thoughts about asking more questions. Hastily you turn around and go trying to get as far as poss

Thanks for the well-written story, you and very few other Authors on the site really take the time to craft the characters themselves. They then shape the world beyond the mere description. Creating the Noble Diana gives us all sorts of insight into the world itself, without it seeming like an info dump. The Hermit's standing in society is fleshed out via his and others observations, rather than just narrator dumps. That sort of story telling will take you far, very far. It might make the story seem slower, but you'll get dedicated readers. Thanks for the story and once again ME NEEDS MOAR!

This is such an amazing read, I'm so sad to see that the author has stopped updating this wonderful novel.

I read up to 4.1 and like it so far.
Just a warning to those readers who expet a story about a hermit living alone in the wild. it is not. But the mc is still at the core an hermit who uses his head.

The writer has a good style, and writes the characters well.  The setting was written in such a way as to avoid info dumps and yet completely immerse the reader into the story. Good Job.

A good story so far with great potential,  my reviews written fairly early but already I have a solid feel for the characters and their interactions feel life like and realistic. The grammar, spelling and structuring are all above par and after only 4 chapters I'm already chomping at the bit for more.  If I have to list one complaint it's that while the reasoning for hermits being seen in a negative light is laid out well it doesn't seem to fit the severity of people's reaction to him but more may come to light later .

This is one of those complex reviews.
On the one hand, there's some real skill at play at here.  Deep worldbuilding.  An approachable writing style.  Good, distinguishable characters.  A strong sense of comedy.
On the other, I'm a bit flabbergasted because I'm so damn confused.
To begin, let's start with the premise of the story regarding our protagonist: He's a Hermit, not a hermit.  This isn't clear for quite a while, but Hermits are (in short) Wizards who follow a certain philosophical approach to their profession, which is more secretive than modern Wizards who act like their in a 20th century academic community. But Hermits are not necessarily hermits. But, the protagonist is both a Hermit and a hermit.... At times, I think the story is just trying to fuck with me.
The way that the secondary characters act is so strange at times, almost inhuman, that it screws with my suspension of disbelief. There's a fierce hatred of Hermits by the professors and students, so much so that people start making waves to pressure the college to get rid of him. For a rough analogy, it'd be the same way that a visiting professor might be treated if he were pro-Nazi or pro-slavery. Except those make sense, whereas a Hermit which is founded on a reclusive academic philosophy... to be ostracized in such a manner is bizarre and strange. (Also, a hermit chooses to live away from people, but here people push Hermits away; again, I feel like I'm being fucked with). And the gossip/rumor mill is like god-damn supernaturally powered to a melodramatic sense. In short, it's incredible how the community treats him.
Finally, I'm really not sure what the plot is nor why the protagonist is where he is at all.  It starts off as he's traveling to make a formal apology and then he kind of just continues to stick around. This doesn't really make sense for a hermit, nor really a Hermit (so little as we know).  There was a vague allusion that he would stay around civilization a while to earn the funds t

    Liking the story so far!
A bit early to write an extensive review, but I'm putting this one up to encourage you to continue. Really enjoying the story, especially liking the whole "Biological Manipulation" part. It gives the vibe of "what would a modern day biologist do if he had magic?". Great potential.
I havn't noticed any glaring grammar mistakes so far, so already you're in the top 3% of this websites authors ;)
My only critism would be the character descriptions, they are a bit lacking to my taste. Also, the Headmaster seems to be a kind and open-minded man, with a hint of mischeviousnessm, yet unless he had some special way of knowing that the Hermit would succeed in his challenge (after only having had a very brief conversation with him as well), why did he set up such an impossible task? The Hermit would fail and as a result the university's reputation would plummet. Looking forward to an explanation for this. (something like the Headmaster is his long lost master so knows his students genius, or the Headmaster has the power to see the futur, or maybe he just has a hidden vendetta against Hermits, etc, etc, etc...)
    Voila, that was my two-cents.

One thing ive noticed is that any story with "hermit" in the title is garantied to have a fairly large social focus.
Dont take this to mean its a bad story ... just that that the name of the story is bit like a book called "your guide to the worlds food" and then spend 90% of the time talking about trains and all their wonders.
To a certain extent a book is judged by what it claims to be, not that its a good opposite what it claims to be.
