Description

Why did no one ever say that the best way to recover from a deadly illness was by solving mysteries with a pretty ghost?

Kayden Feronil, one of the empire's most promising cultivators, was supposed to be recovering from a deadly illness. Unfortunately—or fortunately, since he's bored out of his mind—the remote village where he was supposed to be recuperating is afflicted with its own issues. Hauntings are driving the locals mad. Crooks are trying to take advantage of the fear.

As an upstanding imperial citizen, Kayden sets out to unearth the truth. He just hadn't counted on the ghost tugging far too hard on his heartstrings, or the spiraling journey that the mystery would lead him on.

This  is both a mystery and a love story set in a vaguely medieval world.  The twist is the ghost and there are beautiful lyrical descriptions of her. The world building is light but enough to make it feel real. Some passages do need editing, both for clarity and typos. Hence the 4.5 stars, but overall this story is far superior to many on Royal Road!

I'm glad I read this. The mystery was pretty interesting, and the MC and the ghost were sympathetic characters. I loved the descriptions of the ghost's presence; they were very poetic. I'm not a big romance fan, but I can appreciate a story about people bonding together without constant mentions of how much they're attracted to each other.
I would recommend that the author come back and edit this at some point though. While I could understand the story well enough, there were a fair number of typoes that broke my immersion. Also, some of the characters really would have benefited from having names instead of always being called by their descriptions.
