They say your name don’t mean much if you ain’t got strength to back it up. In a town like mine, tucked away in the hills of Georgia, power’s measured in cultivation ranks, and I was stuck at the bottom—E-grade, like everyone else around here.

Ain’t no one in Cedar Hollow past D-grade, not in all my years. Most folks stopped dreaming of climbing higher a long time ago, myself included. Didn’t have the talent, the teachers, or the money to make it work. And yet, my old man? He was different.

Before he died, my father was a Gunslinger—a real one. Not just some backwoods hunter, but a man who walked into battle with nothing but a gun in his hand and a devil’s grin on his face. They say he could carve through beasts and men alike with bullets that burned like wildfire. They say he was betrayed. I say, none of it matters now.
