Description
What does a guy do when he finds himself in the body of a random teenager in the world of one of his favorite hobbies? Well, in Phillip Jenson's case, realize that it's time to duel his way to the top in Duel Academy and dab on everyone with frogs.
Expect a myriad of decks, strategies, and shenanigans!
This is a hobby, updates will be sporadic and will drop whenever I have time/motivation to write. I hope you enjoy the froggy madness.
P.S. Colossus has been unbanned. Konami, please unban Ronintoaden. Please don't make me beg.

- rrname12321Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I think this one is closest to the original material in terms of gameplay and characters. The start was a little spastic, but it got into its groove in no time. I like the battles using interesting mechanics and featuring different cards. Been a long time since I played any yugioh so I guess this is the next best substitute? GG!
- dirty_dishes10Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is great. With the internet favoring massive amounts of Pokemon fanfics including this site and others, seeing a well-written Yugioh one is refreshing. There is a reason for this as writing card battles is much more of a task than Pokemon battles. But this is done incredibly well in this story, and the author's knowledge about the game is clear, and I doubt this would be possible without that. The MC can be grating in the beginning but there are reasons for this and it feels like a natural reaction to his situation. Lots of gritty parts, and fleshing out of the characters that I loved watching as a kid. The prose is workmanlike and the grammar is perfect. This is such an underrated story on this site with great chapter length too.
- loki0191Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Many froge, much wow, some eldritch horror.
The premise of MC temporarily being put in this world is not great tbqh. The whole "do this and return to your home reality" is a little tiring. But the execution is wonderful. A story that actually explores the magic side of Yu-Gi-Oh! - nuubmanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just that toadally awesome! I appreciate that the mc had different decks through the novel, it gets stale when they use the same deck archetype over and over with no variation, the personalities of the characters are on point so that's a bonus, I wish that at least bastion had some development with Alexis but hey the novel is still quite decent, kinda disappointed that ended so quickly tho :(
- pathofdarkness54Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is an absolutely amazing story. The MC is a little bit rough around the edges and a bit annoying at the start, but the reason for that is revealed later on in the fic. Even at the start there are many funny parts that make me roll around the floor laughing.
Style: Leaves writes with flair. My only gripe is that sometimes he does not put enough details in. Not a huge problem though since most of the involved characters are canon ones I can just look up. The few OCs are well-written and used only when it benefits the story.
Grammar: Not much to say, what few mistakes slips past the author's watch are usually corrected within hours of a chapter release by the community.
Story: Set in GX era, a mix of anime and manga canon with a bit of original stuff by Leaves. I don't want to spoil anything, but it's good and I like how this fanfic doesn't fall into the trap of following every single event and episode from the anime like a mirror image.
Character: Phil starts out a bit annoying, but there is a reason for that which is revealed later on. After around chapter 5 or 6, he also gains a few friends that help keep his impulsiveness in check. The original GX characters are done well and are a mix of the best parts of their anime and manga counterparts. Syrus and Chumley do not get much screentime but they are side characters in the anime anyways. Even so, Syrus gets a decent duel early on and even Crowler gets some love.
Leaves does have a patreon, but as other reviewers have said, none of the chapters or content are paywalled. It is just to help a brother out by buying him coffee. As of the writing of this, there is also a discord server that is not paywalled either. It is a fun place!
Overall 9/10, could be 10/10 if Leaves found an editor. The author has plans to write other novels after this, and I cannot wait to read those too!
Oh yeah and D3S Frog is some freaky cthulhu wacko, every scene he is in is the GOAT. - IWnLukeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is easily the best Yugioh Fan fiction i’ve ever read, the characters are well made and fell like one-to-one versions of who they were in the anime/manga so that leads to a faithful, yet different retelling of Yugioh GX.
Though for some the ____ parts of this are a downside, to me they felt like a more realistic way the story should’ve gone in the anime and were a welcome addition.
Dark - JustAnotherReadRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is for certain the best Yu-Gi-Oh fic I’ve ever read for several reasons:
1. The MC isn’t a mary sue, but also isn’t written to be overly flawed either. This makes his wins feel earned and not gained through plot armor. His losses are also justified without it being frustrating. I’ve read several stories where they write an unbalanced character and then make them lose for illogical reasons because it would be nigh impossible normally.
2. All of the GX characters are written excellently with some of the side characters showing more positive development than they did in the original. It’s nice to read a Yu-Gi-Oh story that doesn’t revolve around only the main character being able to win important battles.
3. Usually I hate when other summoning methods are brought into GX because usually it’s just used as a crutch to make the stories more interesting. However Xyz and Synchro summons are balanced by restrictions which makes their use more interesting and reserved for certain events. I was able to enjoy the appearance of such monsters without it feeling like it was breaking the world-building of GX
4. Lastly I must say the duels are written excellently. They written clearly and concisely without being too overwhelming, combined with what is usually Phil’s witty commentary keeps things entertaining. While I do play Yu-Gi-Oh myself, I can easily see someone completely new to the game enjoying this story as much as I have due to how easy to understand the Author makes it.
Thank you for writing such an amazing work. - Mr andersonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've only watched the first season of yu-gi-oh which isn't when this book is set but the author includes enough info and world building to make sure that even newer people understand what's going on without ever having touched a card not to mention all the newer stuff that the game powercrept into
- RairarkuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ahh frogs, gotta love them.
Is substitoad even banned in GX?
I hope this gets updated, it's a fun story. The MC is such a vibe and the power of frogs will never be denied! Be it FrogTK, Frog Monarch or just being Toadally Awesome, Frogs reign supreme!
That and there's not enough Yu Gi Oh on this site...
Edit at chapter 23: Honestly love this story. The author doesn't even do a patreon paywall so it's all free, too. I love the characters, the MC never fails to make me smile or laugh and the other characters are also well fleshed out! You don't even need to know about the anime or manga to enjoy the story! All in all, a fun read I recommend.
Ps: MC plays multiple different decks which keeps it varied and engaging - RavenKingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Okay I'm not sure whether or not you can but you should get this published it's good it's a bit darker and more bloody then the other Yu-Gi-Oh novels I've read that's good I lock the duels I like how you change the story. That's all I got I'm not good at these but as far as I can tell this novel is good enough to be published
