This was really good. I wasn’t sure about it at first, the character narrative isn’t what I typically read and the story was a bit confusing (the idea of a bunch of strangers just deciding to go home together is weird to me) but the emotional payoff was worth it, especially with how short the story is. I cried on chapter 10 and cried harder during the epilogues, and I’ve never cried from a story before.
    Style:
Don’t have much to say. The narration was a bit confusing at times and the use of untranslated text was a bit annoying at times, but the style was just direct narration with some dialogue.
    Story:
I got a bit lost at times (I didn’t notice the jump from train to boat) and the idea of the story isn’t something I can imagine, but I was able to suspend my disbelief. It was very fast paced, but that was just how it was structured. Overall, very good story. It fulfilled what it was meant to do and set up the twist at the end.
    Character:
The characters that were explored were fleshed out and contributed to the emotional impact at the end. It would have been nice to see the others more, but the story was also less than 20k words.
    Grammar:
Grammar was fine, no issues from what I saw.
All in all, this short story is a package by which the author delivers an emotional payout using themes of family and homecoming. It doesn’t have a ton of depth, at least to my superficial reading, but it’s also about 15k words, so that’s fine. It’s worth a read. Better than most stories on RR.
