BOOK ONE COMPLETE AND EDITED!!
***Full trilogy signed with MoonQuill - Book 1 release date TBD***
There’s a fine line between science and magic, but when some of us with a terminal disease begin developing unexplained abilities, that line starts to blur. Maybe magic is just science we don’t yet understand—but the latest technology, designed to track down the cause of the disease, raises more questions than answers. The data is insightful, the stats revealing, yet they can't explain why this illness is triggering something beyond the natural order. Is it the next human evolution, a side effect of this mysterious disease, or something else entirely? And more importantly—how do we survive it?
This story follows the creation of stat system in a blend of progression fantasy and science fiction, with light LitRPG elements in Book One and heavier LitRPG in Book Two.
Book Two updates on weekends.

- Cynical WitchRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The characters are all believable and interesting and the world (at least what I've seen of it so far) feels the same, The "magic" doesn't seem like it's going to be the wizardy type but it's too early in the story to really tell, I really enjoyed what I read and I'm looking forward to reading more.
The only criticism (if you can even call it that) is that the chapters titled Interlude don't feel like they should be, If you were to read the prologue and then go straight to chapter one you'd be pretty confused. - Marquess of UpplandRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I first started reading A Disease of Magic while it was in the middle of being edited, and greatly enjoyed it overall. The mix of urban fantasy and sci-fi has been done very well so far, and the (edited) plot and characters make for an intriguing read. The majority of the plot is character-driven, and the setup for Callie’s eventual goal is done wonderfully, meshing perfectly with what we have come to know about her. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the 3 main cast members, and hope to see more of it in book 2 (and the magic: reading Callie grow is amazing).
For those coming to read a litRPG, this probably isn’t what you want. Instead of a system at play, the numbers shown so far are an observation of the events unfolding, instead of the opposite. I personally prefer this approach both in general, and here: it fits the setting to a tea, and is probably what would’ve happened if this occurred IRL.
My main gripes with the story were from before the edit; they focused on several of the character’s decisions, and the direction the plot took despite them. The author has already addressed these concerns now, and if book 2 becomes as good as the edited version of book 1, this’ll certainly be worth the wait. - PotassiumRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is an interesting one, the advent of magic and a system is a common topic for fictions on this website, but this one is choosing the less well traveled path with the slow discovery of magic and the creation os a system. This is not one for those that want an OP MC or quick progression. The characters are interesting and so is the plot. The one negative, at least for book one, is the
that I found annoying, but not too much for me to continue reading. - MoaZedonRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I'm really enjoying this book. So far the pacing and characters have been spot on, and everything feels realistic. It's especially good to see characters with human failings. Sometimes I may cringe at their choices, but I know I'm just as bad myself. Very relatable.
The premise of this book revolves around LaShouls, which I think is a fictional disease? It would be good if the synopsis or story made that clear.
The grammar is excellent. I noticed a few turns of phrase that stood out to me as unusually good descriptions while reading, and can't recall any typos.
I've not read enough to review the plot much yet, but overall this is one of the better urban fantasies that I've read on RR. Strongly reccomend. - ThenWhatRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I love this story so far. I too don't like litrpg stories based on computer games much. Integer number and levels make no sense in the real world. Also systems with no explanation as to why they exist or how they work in peoples heads bother me as well. The real measurable numbers in this story make a lot more sense. As for the LaSholes disease being a symptom not the cause resonates with me as well.
I have two complaints with this story though. The first is the few grammar and spelling mistakes in almost every chapter. Being a died in the wool editor at heart, it really bothers me when chapters are locked so I can't submit edit suggestions when I see them. I know these are minor, and I can overlook them, but they bother me.
The next thing that bothers me, is the vulgarity and foul language. I know it is not excessive in this story, but I would personally prefer it to not be there. Strong emotions can be conveyed just as easily without bad language.
Without these two problems, I could easily give this story five stars. Overall, I can give this story 4 and 1/2 stars.
