- ranchAutomataRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I dont rate fictions out of lazinesd but maybe itll change starting now. The novel is pretty entertaining but prettt bleak, but thats how i like mt xianxias. Idk why so many people gave it a bad review. Some parts are slow but ive enjoyed how the author built up yaans story so far. Keep it up :)
- CristianBoyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've read the first volume (first 25 chapters) and i can say i find it quite good. Better than most chinese counterparts and certainly amazing for someone's first book.
There's a lot of work to be done, especially in the early chapters(1 to 4)(most ppl got thrown off by those) where there are quite a few plotholes, things that don't really make sense at the start of the novel(things get explained later on) but if you can get through those first 4 chapters(and i recommend you do) you'll find a novel that someone really tried and made it work.
There are tropes in the story ,but the author tries to avoid them (as u can see from the ending of the first volume, chapter 25).
Thanks for the novel and i am glad to say i will keep reading <3 - The Bus LurkerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ever wanted to read a cultivation novel where the mc is a fiend? Well here it is. Finally, finally you can read a story about someone who isn't a lightning/space cultivator. Although he is a sword prodigy, shocker, I know!
Early chapters are rough. I rate the 1st arc a 3/5 and the 2nd arc a 5/5. Really, my advice is to skip till he gets his goldenfinger grandma in a ring. She doesn't make him OP and is comatose most of the time, so I rate the mc no different from an "average" prodigy. It's nothing new, but it gets the job done. If you love cultivation novels, and are tired of mc's with savior complexes, then this story will do it for you. - neo lindellRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0this is the type of xianxia ive wanted from the webnovel community for SUCH a long time, no dumb fucking harem and rommance shoe horned in and with a constantly struggling MC thats just so fun to follow.
Im writting this as vol. 4 just got done and i dearly hope the desolate Fate rewrite gives this webnovel the publicity it deserves - Astra19Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0When I first started to read this story I didn't have much hope as I thought it would be about some Edge Lord MC who went about killing everyone and everything as a demonic cultivator.
I held onto this view for the first couple of chapters however this expectation was turned on it's head as his character starts to develop, as I learnt more about the MC I wouldn't say he is evil however I wouldn't say he is good either he's just a person following his own self interest. - ContinuumRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very good western version of wuxia webnovels. The main character has solid development and the world building is well spaced out and give nice tastes of what's to come. This really scratches the itch of wuxia novels but without the pains of bad translation or culture customs I dont know.
- BahuvoreRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0It's a refreshing break from cookie cutter cultivation stories while remaining true to the genre, with a solid world being built so far and a satisfying and interesting cultivation system that has me anticipating the next step. It has a rough start but that quickly evens out and has only continued to rise in quality since then.
The characters and characterization of even side characters have probably been the area in this story that has shown the most imrpovememt so far and has only grown stronger, continuing to surprise me by breaking tropes in a refreshing capacity, the only reason I gave it a slightly lower score is due to the characters being slightly weak at the beginning of the novel
I haven't noticed any bad Grammar, but then again I'm very prone to glazing over faulty grammar when reading online, regardless it's good enough that It hasn't broken my immersion in the story so I think it deserves the 4 I gave it.
All in all it's a really enjoyable cultivation story and I'd like to see it pick up more traction and attention on here!!
I guess I need a few more words to post this review so- Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers peter piper picked a peck of pickled peppers *jazz hands* - StgBriaRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5A Desolate Life is fascinating. It has all the best elements presented in a not so good way. As a caveat, it's super dark. Grim Dark. I would almost go as far to say that it's mean spirited.
But here's the thing, it's really interesting. Every chapter goes in crazy new directions that I wasn't expecting. If this was executed better, it would be amazing.
STYLE
Really the sticking poitn for me. It's kind of nonsense. Stuff isn't set up. Some scenes are kind of hard to follow or just don't make sense.
GRAMAR
Pretty good. Definitely some mustakes but they are all small and don't affect enjoyment.
CHARACTER
Fine. A bit thin in places but it consistetly meets the bare minimum.
STORY
This is what I'm here for. It makes some bold choices and moves. Sure, the passages are too long on average, but that's a style issue and that's sort of my point as a whole. If this was executed properly, this story would be mindblowing just how crazy it is.
OVERALL
I had fun. A lot of people are going to be turned off by just how bleak it is, so that's my warning. It's really, really dark and joyless. But it never felt edgy or gratituous. So don't both reading if you can't stomach that. Where the line gets drawn is that its sooo bleak that it starts to feel mean spirited, but I only read like the first 100 pages or 4 chapters so what do I know. - TomTomsonRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Immersion breaking writing style is no no for me. Mc does something - out of nowhere side characters thoughts pop in and out, with no warning, it breaks concentration. I though author just is inexperienced so I check middle chapters and this style is going strong there. Short chapters. Story is interesting, tho nothing too original, which is not bad mind you. If not for that strange style of writing, this novel would be a strong 4 stars. For me just a torture to read, so I quit
- madog543Royal Road★★★ 2.5It's the classic trope of the main charecter having his family fridged and turning to evil cultivation to avenge them. As far as cultivation novels go, it mirrors many of the orginal chinese novels of the 2010s. There is nothing really new. I am not the best at reviewing grammer, but didn't see many issues.
Oh, also the charecter has the spirit of a power cultivater stuck in a ring, that is attempting to recarnate, to mentor them. Sticking to the chinese cultivation style is fine, but that means its easier to spot the issues.
The writing is fine, but the biggest issue of this series is how it tells you about things instead of showing them to you. It also does not have any deep back story and suffers from poor pacing. If you want a cultivation novel that doesn't have the issue of translation errors and can be mindlessly read. This the book for you.
I hope the author's takes this a critic in the spirit it is given and not a bashing of their work. Writing takes alot of time and practice. I hope the author uses this review to help their future work.
